Most MS Way to Dispose of Contents ?

Anyone have any thoughts on how best to dispose of the entire contents of a property ?

It seems to me a damn cheek that you can sell an odd item or two and a second hand goods merchant will both pay you for it and take it away, but if you want to do it for a whole house's worth of stuff you have to pay them ! Is there a better way that ensures you at least break even or preferably get some money for the stuff being removed in one go ? :money:

Cheers guys !

Why not have an 'Open Selling' day, where you label everything you want to sell, advertise the day, and let everyone come and wonder around and buy it?

You can get companies that do entire housing clearances and they even can pay for some goods might not be much though. My mum property was done this way when she sadly passed away we got around £100 and she didnt have that much just sofa, tv and a few others Fridge freezer went to a relatives home

Many solicitors and Estate agents have companies that do this, my brother is a EA and he has people on books. My neighbour use to do this as a side line for a solicitor he as very honest and all money went to estate
  • Depends what the contents are to be honest.
Unfortunately people the days don't seem to want to buys secondhand household goods....they would rather go to Ikea !!
Offer it on Freecycle & it will disappear bl**dy quick !!

Part of the problem is that successive governments have made it increasingly expensive for traders to dispose of rubbish, so the clearance companies risk ending up with a half a dozen things worth a few quid each and then having to pay £100 or more to dispose of the rest (or fly-tipping it).

The most profitable way is likely to be for you to walk round and identify anything sellable - and put that on Ebay - and use Freegle to get rid of the rest. You will still probably have to take some stuff to the council tip yourself.

I'd agree with that, the only issue is is your time best spent elsewhere or do you have time to frig around for a few coffers off ebay, likely to encounter the percentage of persistent idiots that lurk there?

I think it depends on your availability.

Best bet get someone to come in and take the lot or do it the ebay way if you have time
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
  • Some charities that accept furniture donations with take that and bin bags full of clothes etc. You won't make any money but it will be off your hands.

Did a house clearance up North, anything left out side on the driveway just got took away by anyone passing. Everything that did not have any value or would cost to dispose of just went at the end of the drive with a sign "free to take".

Go through the contents and pick out the good stuff, stick it on Gumtree at half the price of similar items with quick sale. Anything with little value put it free on Gumtree, arrange bits and pieces into job lots e.g. assorted kitchen items, leave junk at the door with a please help yourself sign.
