friend won't be able to handle the motorway? Birmingham to London for new years..

Should I risk going to london with a friend in his car, when he has no motorway driving experince whatsoever?! Birmingham - London. Planning to go New Years Eve...

What put me right off is he said he doesn't feel he would be able to handle the motorway, because he gets tired easily! what the ****. :rotfl::rotfl:

He also recently went to buy a 1.2 corsa, 03, with 70k plus on the clock, he bought it without any service history, 6 previous owners. Told him to do a HPI check, before and after buying. Didn't so left him to it.

I spoke to the previous owner and managed to drive the price down a bit because of some MOT adviosories, such as the bushes being weak, and the anti roll bar needing to be replace. Still believed he should of walked away from it. No major issues with the car, as of yet..

His car (as he says) seems to move to the left/right both ways without him doing it. Nearly hit a passing car as he turned the corner. the other day..

I just don't feel safe with him, motorways are a dangerous place, with his no motorway experience, him saying he get's tired easily, unsure the car can even hack the motorway I don't feel it would be wise to go along with him.

You really have to have your wits about you on the motorway. I have been driving for many years and have an HGV licence also so know what to look out for.

I joined the M6 a little while back 50mph limit because of the roadworks.
Steel barriers blocking the hard shoulder off.

So i joined and the speed on the inside lane was close to 50 so i thought just stay there. Middle and out side lanes were barely going any faster. But more erratic. Speed up slow down. Thought why bother.

About 2 miles later a lorry in the middle lane comes up alongside me, And after a little while that lane is now doing exactly the same speed as me.

All of a sudden he drifts very slightly over the line then indicates to move into the space im am occupying. I was positioned right down the front of him nexto to the cab.

Hand on the horn all i could do was accelerate slighty to put the bonnet of my car into his line of sight.

If i had braked i reckon he would have kept pulling over and squashed me into the barrier.

Then you get idiots like the one today.

Watch about the 1 minute mark. Nothing dramatic but the number plate tickled me. BMW with the plate WN58 KKR

The actual file is much better quality than that but youtube seems to have killed it.
Need to play with dimensions and file sizes.

    Genuine question. Who cares?

If his car isn't safe, don't do it.

If he gets tired, stop at one of those new fangled service station things.

Why you need to ask a forum this, God only knows.

I wonder if the left/right is actually the wheels needing balanced causing a vibration. The components you mentioned failing are unlikely to put you in immediate danger... it would be more dangerous to have poor tyres and handling or a mechanical fault occur and him not knowing how to safely get across to the hard shoulder (although hopefully he should stay in lane 1 throughout most of the journey).

The biggest danger is HIM... Motorways are dangerous places! More in particular joining motorways can be dangerous if you don't know how to. It's not completely rare to see some numpty that has come to a stop on the slip road because they've not been able to merge during normal levels of traffic.

Why not advise him to take a 1 or 2 hour lesson with an instructor?

If not then you need to make a judgement call..
  • Why don't you drive?
  • Welcome back.. we've missed you.

Are you going home for new year?

If you're seriously contemplating going on a motorway with someone who drives like that then you really should get yourself sectioned pretty quickly.

In fairness, I think you both should get the train or public transport, let's not forget that you yourself were invloved in an accident not so long back :o
