eBay bidding fever

Recent auctions have brought home to me how bidding fever can run away with some people on eBay.
I've been looking to buy the first season of Suits on DVD, and for some time it was over £15 on Amazon. Some sellers had it on eBay, so I tried bidding and in two or three instances was outbid by buyers bidding at or very close to the new price on Amazon.
It dropped to £14 on Amazon, and still people would bid up to almost £13 on eBay, leaving me thinking "Why not pay the extra pound and get it brand new from Amazon?", especially with free delivery....
The last one sold on eBay sold at £12.99, one went unsold at £28.00 starting price, another sold at £15.99 (!), One from Australia was unsold at £16.34 plus £11.08 postage..... and prior to that, a couple went unsold, and another sold at £29.95!
Just back from Amazon, and it's now £7.50....

About 4 years ago, I bought a few box sets of various TV shows from Amazon (I was working in a place that had no watchable tv service), and then when I returned to the UK, I put them up for auction on ebay.
I listed these as being in perfect condition & having only ever been played once and every single set sold for more than brand new sets were going for on Amazon.
So many people still have the "It's on ebay, it must be a bargain" mindset.0 -

Yes, it was seeing the trailer for season 2 earlier on that prompted me to re-check Amazon.0 -
I was looking on eBay a few months ago for a Paul's boutique bag for a birthday present. Saw a lovely bag, bnwt, bidding was up at £40 odds plus £4 odds delivery.
Clicked onto the Paul's boutique website, that bag was in the sale for £20 with free delivery!
Do people honestly not shop around, thinking that eBay must be a bargain?!Can't think of anything smart to put here...0 -
Try not to think too hard about it - don't look the gift horse in the mouth; if your buyer is happy then there's nothing to worry about - just make sure everything is described to within an inch of its life.
I know there are some people who seem to shop exclusively on eBay and will defend it to the hilt never needing to go elsewhere, whilst I'm a lot more discerning and will go anywhere that I trust if the price is right (and am relatively easy to put off if I have a few bad experiences)."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Maybe for some people the price isn't the only consideration.
They might enjoy the fun and excitement of the auction, or might have money in their PayPal account that they want to use.
People have all sorts of reasons for buying on eBay.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I have noticed a lot of people paying more for used DVDs on ebay than they can get new on various websites. I used the following website to look up DVD prices
http://www.find-dvd.co.uk/dvd/Suits-Season-1/1115641.htm
Replace the word dvd with CD, book or game to look for them too

You do realise Paypal can be used for payments outwith eBay...?
You don't have to buy 'something on eBay' to 'use' the money in the Paypal account.0 -
Yes, googler, I do understand that:D
I was just giving suggestions as to why people may pay more on ebayEarly retired - 18th December 2014
