International (NZ) 3rd Party Shipping Insurance

Hi,

Ive been having a good search on google and the forum here but I have been unable to find anything on it so:

I have purchased a shippment from Parcels 2 Go, who are using FedEx, to send a Bicycle to my girlfriend in New Zealand.

Now at the time of buying the serivce from P2G they offered me insurance for the full amount of £1950 for the price of £95. The shipping itself cost £200 so I thought £95 on insurance was a bit much.....but now I'm getting nervous! The parcel is due for collection today.

I have been hunting he net and have only been able to find 2 companies to offer 3rd party insurace but both are US based. Shipsurance is one of them and their form will only let you select a USA dispatch address - and they only cover upto $1000.

Does anyone know of another company that offers a UK to international service? Or is my quote of £95 off P2G not too bad - seemed expensive compared to the article guide prices on here.

Cheers very much for any help
Ryan

  • Well if you're worried about the price you could get a 'quote' off the FedEx site to see if the insurance they offer is comparable:

    https://www.fedex.com/ratefinder/home?cc=gb&language=en

I'm afraid I don't know much about insurance but I'm reasonably sure that Parcels2Go would give you a competitive quote.

The other thing your girlfriend will need to check up on is import duty at her end there may well be a charge, a hunt on the web will find the NZ customs website that will list criteria and charges.
  • Hi, thanks for the reply.

I tried FedEx but they wouldnt deal with me because I was a P2G customer...so I then asked if I could have a quote for a new shippment that I would be sending today with a value of £1950.01 :) And they came back with a price of £470 for shipping and insurance, apparently they dont insure separately.

Its frustrating as the USA based 3rd party costs about 50p per $100, so it should only be £20 really I think.

I feel like insurance is a way that P2G makes a tonne of money, as they'll just have one big policy that covers all dealings I bet.

Yer we are all set with a plan for the import, if they do class it as a import as she's only there for the next 5 months of her VISA and will be taking the bike with her.

Cheers for the reply, starting to condsidering paying the £95...though it is alot!
