Musty smelling bathroom/toilet

We moved into our house around six months ago and this past week I started to notice what I can only describe as a musty pong in our main bath room.
I have had the Lino up and cannot see any signs of damp on the floor boards. I also seem to think the smell is coming up from the toilet. We don't have any problems flushing(blocked!), the water is clear and the cysten(sp) is clean?
Although this is our main bathroom, with bath, sink and toilet - we use this only once or twice a day, as the ensuite s the main area we use.
Anybody got any idea what I could try?
Air freshener will just mask the smell and not fix the problem!
TIA
As a side point maybe something connected or may not be - the radiator in the room is not working, stone cold! Doesn't need bleeding as we tried that and the pipes leading up to it are stone cold! This did work a month or so ago!

If you think it's coming from the loo you could try this. I recently had a nasty toilet smell (been here 8 years and suddenly started without warning) and added some blocks to the cistern and used a descaler tablet in the bowl - smell disappeared within a day or two and and I now use the tablets regularly - all ok so far.
Have you checked the boiler pressure and bled the radiator? I also found the thermostatic valve on the bathroom rad was prone sticking. If you have these fitted, try taking the head of the valve off and gently pull the pin in the middle out and clean any scale off it and replace. Mine had some corrosion on it that was stopping the valve opening.0
