Hi
My mum recently got diagonised with terminal cancer, a tumor in her brain amoungst other places. While we were still reeling from the shock, she lost her use of her right side and doesn't understand what is going on.
So we have not had the chance to set up a power of attornery on her financial affairs.
I would just like some advice on what happens to any accounts that she has jointly with my dad. Do these get frozen when she passes away or is dad still able to access them, she does have a will in place.
I am going round their place tomorrow and want to reassure my dad on a few things as he gets very panicky and worries alot.
My mum only has weeks to live and we only found out she was ill in November.
Thanks for any replies.

Joint accounts should be OK for your dad to access. The person who has not made a mistake, has made nothing0

The bank switched my parents' joint accounts into Dad's name very easily after Mum died but it doesn't always go so smoothly. He could open an individual account now and transfer some of the money into it if that would help with his anxiety.
Your Mum will be entitled to some benefits under the special rules - https://www.patient.co.uk/health/benefits-for-the-terminally-ill.htm
The claims usually go through very quickly and easily.0 -
I'm so sorry to hear what is happening.
As the accounts are held jointly, you dad can still access them, and after your mum passes away, all the accounts should be transfered to your dad's name on production of the death certificate.Early retired - 18th December 2014
