you know thats a really stupid question,
try looking at the RIBA website or YELL as already mentioned
  • sorry im in sheffield , and its only to take down an existing wall between two houses to merge them into one i have been told by building regulations to send in our plans of before and after but i dont know where to find a good reliable architect.

you don't need an architect for that, and I have already told you to go to RIBA if you want an architect.

If its only to take down an internal wall then you could do the sketches yourself; they don't need to be anything fancy just show the dimensions of the rooms. What you will need though is structural calculations to satisfy building control/regs as the wall between the two properties will be load bearing therefore you need a structural engineer and not an architect.
google structural engineer Sheffield and I'm sure that will give you a good starter for six
  • Thats what ive been told by building regulations to send in our plans of what the house will like after the removal of the wall , fire exits etc, any advice on this will be appreciated .

  • We have not done anything like this before and are completely new to to all this so any advice on what procedures we will have to go through will be helpfull, thankyou.

as said above, I'd do it yourself. Just get a pad of graph/squared paper and go round the house with a tape measure, sketch up to scale on the graph paper indicating dimensions and locations of doors and windows. Not rocket science and something an architect will charge through the nose for. If you're only removing one wall and not completely redoing the layout of either building then should be fairly easy to do. They will want to see calcs for the rsj/lintel which will replace the removed wall though
  • Thankyou ill have to look into that.

your not really giving a lot of information, why are you knocking 2 into 1 are you creating a childrens home, its just you mentioned fire exits. Is it going to be a private dwelling or some sort of business?

this makes a difference on whether you can draw your plans on the back of a fag packet or not.
