Anyone Been to Lake Garda?

We've just decided to blow some of our budget for a new kitchen on a week in the Italian lakes! We're a year into renovating our old house and really need a break! Can anyone recommend reasonably priced eateries/bars in the area, and the whereabouts of any flea/antique markets? I know it's not the cheapest place in the world, and any 'does' and 'don'ts' are very welcome. We are staying in the town of Garda itself and have already booked the hotel on the recommendation of 2 lots of friends. Thanks in advance.

Not a flea market, but Desenzano has a super market - clothes, shoes, bags, lovely scarves etc. V good quality and reasonably priced. They even take credit cards!!!! Can't remember what day it's on though, sorry.

Get a boat over, the trip will be lovely. V envious of you, Lake Garda & Lake Como my favourite places in whole world!
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Some lovely places to visit by boat at the northern end of the lake.... Torbole, Limone, and Malcesine.

If you get the boat over to Sirmione this is a lovely restaurant...

Verona is not far away...and even Venice, if you haven't been, and fancy a trip away from the lake

Hope you have a wonderful time! icon7.gif

  • If you get as far as Malcesine at the North of the lake, be sure to go on the cable car to the top of the mountains. The view is absolutely out of this world, be sure though to take some warm clothes with you up there. We went last year in May and it was still Icy at the top. Needless to say we went totally ill prepared and had to come down fairly quickly.

I beleive that you can actually walk along the mountain tops, there seemed to be some paths available, but alas didn't get to find out.

There is a market in Garda itself one of the days, might even be Sunday. It streches for quite a while along the coastal path. Go early before the crowds.
and if I remember correctly, most of the other towns have markets all on different days.

Like Alexie says, Verona is not far away, you can use the local bus to get there, be warned they are very busy, buy your ticket from the office at the bus station, it,s not alot of money

    Enjoy Lake Garda its great.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure!
