unpaid item - 2nd chance offer

How does this work?

I seem to keep getting people recently who win the item and then take an eternity to actually pay for it.
I've begun using the 'unpaid item case' feature in the resolution feature, and usually they pay soon after the case is opened. although not always.

I sold a jacket for £50 about a month ago.
I waited 1 week and email the buyer asked what was going on.
They said that they were sorry but they were in the process of moving house and getting a new paypal account setup.
I said that was fine and that I would wait.

Another 2 weeks went past and I emailed them again, asking when I could expect payment. They haven't bothered to reply.
I have now opened up a case against them

I also notice that there was a person who bidded very close to the winning bid.

Can I send them a second chance offer whilst the case is still open? (there IS an option to do so).

It's confusing because a similar thing happened last night with another very slow payer.
I opened up a case against them which had been open for about 2 weeks and still no payment.
I then closed the case to get my fees back, but could no longer find teh option to send a 'second chance offer' to anyone.

  • As far as I am aware when you make the offer, they get sent an email with a link to what is essentially a "private listing" which only they can see, and it has a "Buy it now" option with the amount they bid. If they accept by clicking it, then it all completes as normal.
If you're happy to take that offer, then send it!

You won't be able to send a 2nd chance offer when a case is closed because you'll have been refunded your listing fee. so they won't let you sell it "for free!"

    thank you.

I'm gonna give the original buyer until maybe Wednesday, and then i'll send a second chance offer to the second highest bidder then.

It a shame as the person who won has thousands of stars and good feedback, and I so I thought they'd pay quickly and would be easy to deal with.
I guess moving house, along with it's paypal issues is a fair excuse, but completely failing to reply to my second message after all this time is testing my patience, lol.

    cheers

Sorry but you are incorrect, you are refunded final value fees not listing fees and you are able to do a second chance offer once a NPB case has been closed.

You should wait till you have closed you NPB before doing a second chance offer as the first buyer could end up paying and then the second accepting your offer leaving you with 2 buyers for 1 item, and 2 lots of final value fees to pay as well. But as it has been over 2 weeks since the auction the second bidder may well have purchased a similar item elsewhere by now, you may be better off just relisting.

The second chance offer is available because you might have more than one item to sell not just because someone didn't follow through with the purchase.

But like I said, this happened a few nights ago with another item, and when I closed the case after hearing nothing for weeks, there no longer seemed to be an option to offer a '2 chance' to anybody
