Rent Increase

Hi,

Does anybody know if a landlord has to give a certain amount of notice before increasing the rent? Contract doesn't mention it.
Debt @ 17/11/12: £12,017 :embarasse. Hoping to be debt free by June 2014 :).

It depends on your contract. If you have signed a 12month contract at 400 then you should pay 400 for the duration of your contract (unless stated otherwise which if it doesnt mention it then they cant change it)

Afaird thats all I know! Are you on a rolling contract? Not sure how that one would work.
People don't know what they want until you show them.

Not sure on notice but if on a rolling contract I believe the landlord has to serve a certain type of notice (S13?). I believe the landlord can only increase the rent once a year though.
Might be worth doing a search on this forum as I'm pretty sure this question has come up before.

Look under section 13 (2) housing act 1988
