3 contract nearly at and end - seeking some advice.

Options
Evening All,

My 3 mobile contract is almost at an end - 1st week in Jan. I'm a complete novice on how to go about getting the best upgrade deal so I've turned to the experts. Hope someone can help.

Currently on the 'one plan' 2000 mins, 5000 3to3 mins, AYCE Data and 5000 txts with a Nokia E63. £23pm

Also have another contract for my daughter - Blackberry something or another 300 mins, bbm, 500 txts and an AYCE data add on. £22pm

I get a loyalty discount of about £2 each pm

Been looking around at phones and I love the look of the Galaxy Note 2.

Anyway - this is the first time I will have upgraded and I don't really know what to expect or the best way to go about it. For me it isn't all about a cheaper deal - I just want a 'good' deal. Is it worth asking for a better deal on my 2nd contract if I can't get a good deal on my upgrade? When is the best time to call them or the best way to go about it? I've seen the '3 retention deal' post on here but as I said I'm not really interested in a cheaper deal or a cheaper phone (unless the cheaper deal includes a GN2!).

Any advice or pointing in the right direction would be most appreciated.

Sam

  • Hi Sam. The thing to remember is that 3's retention team are heavily targeted on keeping customers, particularly those that spend a decent amount every month. If you have a particular phone in mind, it's best to go in prepared - find the most competitive deal for that handset, on any network which you'd be happy to take if you weren't with 3. Contact retentions when you are within 30 days of the end of your contract (on 3's phone menu, I think the option is "if you're thinking of leaving 3", and when through, tell the operator you'd like your PAC code, as you're nearly at the end of your contract and you've seen a great deal on the handset you're after. This starts the negotiation - the retention agent will then offer you an option to stay. I would only use your other contract in the negotiation if they don't offer you something competitive...mention you have another contract with them, and it would be disappointing to move that to another network as well at the end of that contract as well - they may take that into account. Be careful as well not to get a contract that you don't need...ie more minutes, texts etc... than you're ever going to use, just to get the handset free. Good luck!
  • Before I cancelled I was offered a 30 day rolling contract roughly equivalent to your daughters for £9 a month.
