  • Masterpoo - I wish I could say something useful but I've been terrible of late!

I just crave rubbish and then eat when i'm down - usually sweet stuff and I know it won't do me any good but it's like I can't stop!

I have just started doing myfitnesspal again - not necessarily with the aim of counting calories, just to give me an idea of how much damage I'm doing when I eat the bad stuff!

I'm the same, I crave sweets, never chocolate!

OH DEAR LORD, I seriously don't want to know specifics about the rubbish I've been consuming on my cheat day (s), all I know is that they are bad for me and I should ONLY be eating them ONCE A WEEK, probably less!!!!!
  • Well the last time I stepped on the scales was about 6 weeks ago, a week after I returned to normal eating after Christmas. Yesterday, I had not only lost the 8lbs I had gained, I'm 2lbs lighter than I was at the start of December! Total loss=10lbs

I know that has to include a lot of water weight, but it's still good news. I've just been eating sensibly, but I had a couple of days off as well so I've not felt the least bit deprived, so I can't wait to step on the scales again in another 6 weeks!

Hi all - I'd like to join in. I'm figuring out how to live with PCOS, Graves' disease (carbimazole, radio-iodine treatment, now finally stable on thyroxine), 2 replacement discs in my neck, longterm slipped discs in my lower back, slightly high cholesterol, and waiting for the results of a glucose tolerance test I had on Friday. Blimey, it's like a shopping list of boring mundane diseases! I've lost over a stone now I'm off steroids, and need to lose about 4 more.

I've agreed with the doctor to limit red meat (I'm allowing myself a portion once a week and otherwise opting for veggie, chicken or fish) and fullfat dairy (mature Cheddar is my downfall, so I'm allowing myself 1oz every other day). I've started green-juicing in the mornings which I'm really enjoying, and otherwise opting for salads and steamed veg for the fibre. I don't have a particularly sweet tooth so that's good. I just have to be consistent. I try to avoid wheat because it goes straight through me, although I seem okay on couscous.

Anyway, exercise-wise, I've had to give up my beloved weights and am doing as much walking as possible. I've broken my goals down into half-stone chunks, and am 2lbs off the next half-stone goal.

So let's see where I end up :) I'm feeling quite positive that this year I'll actually meet my health goals - I just want to feel better :)

    Hello Everyone :)

Well, i am definitely having success. I am well and truly out of size 16 and into size 14 now, and boy does it feel good!
I still have no idea (and no desire to know) what i weigh, what my measurements are, or anything of the sort.

I am not depriving myself of ANYTHING. I am still eating crisps, chocolate, and drinking wine. Just much much less of it than i was before. Also, in regards to chocolate i am buying the best quality that i can afford. At the moment, that is Green & Blacks Organic chocolate (i normally buy the ginger one, although i am going to try the chilli one next i think). That way, i am not just putting it in my mouth without thinking about it, i am emjoying the taste much more, therefore it lasts much longer.

I am still struggling with exercise-although i am still walking my son to school and back Mon-Fri, which is 30 mins everyday.

MasterPoo-NO beating yourself up allowed on this thread :D You know where you are going wrong, so you just need to fix it.

Well done to everyone who has lost weight, been eating healthily and been doing better than me on the exercise front!

Welcome to Tiglath and Fingersxed :)

    Mrs T_M,

Good for you for keeping trying! Well done! Most people would have given up by now, so please pat yourself on the back for trying :) Hopefully, you can get some results from the blood tests. The exercise you can do will help release endorphins, which will hopefully help with the depression as well. I certainly feel on a bit of a natural high after pilates classes and going walkies :)

A dietician should be quite useful as well. The one I saw was very helpful and has made follow-up contact a few times. Keeping a food diary is good too, as it then shows you in black and white exactly what you're consuming. I used the myfitnesspal app and that's where I realised I wasn't eating enough of certain things.

I wish you the very best. Keep going - you can do it. Slowly but steady does it :)

Great advice. :T Keep the food diary as you put every morsel into your mouth or take even a few sips, not at the end of the day or a few hours later, and let the dietician know you were super strict about that. Research shows many people underestimate what they eat and forget quite a bit even by the end of the day.

Hi, folks, please can I join you?

My problem is portion control and a husband who is a great cook!

I never pick and only eat chocolate once a week, my Crunchie treat. I have to admit to wine being problem, too. How many calories are there in one large glass of white?

While in the USA at DS 's place I regularly walked the dog and lost half a stone. Since we've been back the weight has crept on again.

Made a good start yesterday, with ratatouille and small baked potato,no wine.

Walked to town and back the long way this morning.

I'd like to lose a stone, get back to about 10 stone.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)
  • i have been on a healthy eating plan for a few months now and would recommend the business to anybody who wants to maintain weight, gain weight or lose weight healthily. i wanted to gain a little weight as i am very active and find it very easy to lose weight, so i used to eat alot of junk to fill me but this made me tired and found it hard to maintain/gain weight. i now eat healthier, im in control of my weight and i feel fitter and less tired (and grumpy)!!! its not counting what you eat, its a plan to suit your lifestyle and tailored round your likes and dislikes. i will pass details on if anyone finds this interesting.

Welcome! Of course you can join in - the more the merrier :)

First of all, regarding portion control. Is your hubby also generous and gives you man-size portions? It's a very common occurance, I'm afraid. Do you have smaller plates than the ones you're currently using for dinner? Using a smaller plate is a great trick because you don't feel like you're missing out.

Can you go for walks near your home? I know it's easier when you have a dog/friend/hubby to go walkies, so perhaps you could get yourself an ally as such, whether it's "borrowing" a dog or dragging your hubby out? There are plenty of exercise videos on utube as well, where you can work out in the comfort of your own home.

Steady does it, and I'm sure you'll get to your goal and no doubt you'll fit in with us nicely :)

Oh, and I have no idea how many calories are in wine, sorry (we don't count around here ;) ), but maybe having a glass with half wine, half fizzy water? Bleurgh, I hear you say :D and I agree. I have a glass or two up to 3 times a week, and only ever in company :)
