Hi there
I am looking for some help please? I am new to the PPI world but am slowly working through the articles and stickies. Here is my story:
I found a statement for an old, closed Halifax account which listed a direct debit for £7.80 re Halifax Insurance. I had no clue what this was for, I'd never had any insurance with them as far as I was aware. I went to my local branch today and after a few calls and some time it was established this was for Overdraft Protection Insurance, was taken out over the phone in 2006 and paid until 2010 when I closed the account. I had no idea this was on the account, crazy, I know, since I was paying it every month.
I was given the phone once the branch member had relayed this info to me and the person asked me some questions. She mentioned the basics about the insurance and one of these was payments during unemployment. I was made redundant in 2008 and would most likely have claimed if I'd have known it existed.
The person on the phone asked if I would like to make a PPI misselling claim OR a retrospective claim on the policy re the unemployment. I replied that I didn't know which route to go down as I wasn't informed enough and didn't want to prejudice myself by doing one or the other. She didn't offer an info but said she would send me paperwork out re misselling within 5 days.
Can anyone point me in the right direction please on where to find info on these specific points, ie a retrospective claim and if this would invalidate a misselling claim? Do citizens advice deal with these matters?
I should maybe mention that I was made redundant whilst on maternity leave so didn't claim job seekers as I wasn't looking for work. I haven't claimed since either, I've been a SAHM. Possibly this will invalidate a claim, however, if I'd have known that the provision was there in the first place for a claim then things might have been different.
Thanks for reading and in advance for any pointers.

You can either claim for misselling PPI because you obviously didnt't know what it was or you'd have used it when you were made redundant [unless it was voluntary] or claim for payments not made duriong redundancy.
You'd get more back if your complaint was upheld for misselling rather than paying while you were unemployed, so it's basically a choice betwen
a) do you think you'd get more for the PPI complaint, but possibly not be upheld
or
b) get more for the unemployment complaint......Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0
