New seller wants to sell for more money to someone else!

I just won an item by buy it now for a quite good price. The seller is very new and first said that he could not post for over 6 business days as he is new! I then said that in listing he has put 3 business days and I would like it by then as he must be able to get to a post office at some time in a whole week. He then said ok.

Next I get an email saying he wants to refund me as someone on eBay has offered him more money for it. I wrote explaining that that happens to me all the time but unfortunately you sell for what it ends on as that is how eBay works and that I would report him. He still wants to refund me ( he doesn't know how to though as he has 0 feedback) . He said it was a mistake and charged too low postage ( charged £1 and I would have charged £3.50 and I don't mind paying extra postage but haven't told him yet) . He also said he did the buy it now too low.

My question is , even though he is wrong , should I let him off as he's new ? Am I being too harsh as he sounds youngish too??

Leave honest feedback. Even if he is new, he will soon learn how eBay works.

I've recently left a neg for a zero feedback seller which sent them to -1 because they didn't send the item. I had to open a case for a refund.

I have purchased from loads of other zero feedback sellers and been very very happy.

Why make exceptions for a new seller. It's all part of the learning curve. The seller will learn lessons from early mistakes. Seller should sell to whoever won auction/buy it now-not some random who has offered more money (if this is the case, which I doubt).

New seller doesn't mean = stupid seller, or at least it shouldn't,

I would carry on doing what you are doing, insist item is sent and refuse to cancel transaction. If he waits an excessive time to post it then open a full dispute to get a refund.

Once you have your goods or a refund then consider appropriate feedback.

He wants to sell outside Ebay and your thinking of letting him off?

Neg all the way if he won't send. At least then, if hes a buyer too- he can't bid on my items.:D

    Please don't let them off.

    This seller is bad news.

The sooner they are seen to be bad news, and off eBay the better.

Possibly they aren't a new seller, but a seller who's run into trouble before and has opened a new account?

Well, I've emailed saying that I don't mind paying a bit more postage to cover actual postage but that I expect the item and if I don't get it ill report him and leave bad feedback and also let ebay know about other buyer who has tried to buy it after sale had ended and to pass on that he could get suspended to for this as I will be mentioning this to eBay and hopefully they will investigate his emails.
Very true that they need reporting , me being too soft on him is allowing him to do the same to others. Wonder if i will ever get the item .

Unfortunately - any negative you leave can now be removed - as threatening to leave bad feedback is against Ebay rules.:o

    .

I'm sure one of the experienced sellers will be here shortly to advise, but I think you've just blown your case by using what is termed as "feedback extortion".

I put it that I would leave feedback " fitting to how this sale has gone" hinting on negative. Hope this counts.

....I hate ebays stupid feedback rules . I still think sellers should be able to leave negative feedback.
  • I assume that there was no obvious stupid mistake involved in his pricing?

If he thought after the sale that you had overpaid would he be in touch offering a part refund?

He posted a price, you offered and paid it. Deal done. Tell him that life can be tough sometimes.
