Orange Loyalty - now no deals?!

Wonderful redefinition of "loyalty"
MSE Mobile forum definition :- "Loyalty - Noun meaning "I will stay with my current network as long as I can't get a better deal elsewhere and if I can, then two fingers to my old network".
Now, I don't for one minute blame anyone for going for the best deal at renewal and shopping around to do so. I do with every contract coming to an end, from mobile phones to Insurance, energy supplies, banks etc.
But I don't try to suggest that I have remained with any supplier out of loyalty. I have no personal relationship with them, nor do I want one, so I don't whine about "I have been a loyal customer................. " because I haven't.
I may have been a long-time customer, but that is only because they have given me a good deal at renewal, otherwise I would be off. And I expect any savvy MSE member to do likewise, but, please, stop whining on about "loyalty".
Ah but you're missing the point that 'loyalty' is the term that the phone companies introduced and use. That's why customers are now using it too.*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

Likelyfran,
Under Distance selling Regulations you have 7 working days to return, refuse delivery of the phone when the try to deliver.
Sounds like that employee needs a kick up the a$$, Orange Complaints Code of Conduct says you can complain via email customer.services@orange.co.uk HOWEVER this is out of use, use the email below.
Send a complaint against this employee's manner, how he made you feel & him giving the incorrect information on Distance Selling Regulations misleading you and a request under Data Protection Act for a copy of the call to: executive.office@everythingeverywhere.com
Also copy in graham.howell@ofcom.org.uk the complaints man at Ofcom he will pass it to a suitable person, Orange have to abide by Ofcom Codes of Conduct when it comes to DSR/selling, so make sure you highlight thisis why you have copied the email to Ofcom.
SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe

Has he misadvised me then by saying I had to accept delivery of phone? ie. if I refuse to accept it, what happens then?
Wonder will my email as per your advice, count as my cancellation in writing notice?
D'you think retentions people will then ring me?
Just in a quandry as on v v low income and as not working for health reasons, I'm now worried about being able to get another contract elsewhere...
I've been looking at 'plan change' thing on my online account and if I pay a fiver a month extra, I can have that 500mb but I bet they've taken all the other loyalty stuff - minutes and things that had built up- too. Maybe not a good idea to do as I will be long-term annoyed about having been bumped UP in monthly payout.
Clueless!

Others will be better placed to advise you on your current situation, but once you do get up and running with a smartphone, you might find a data counter app very useful. I have one on my Android system called "Data Counter" which sits on my phone's home screen and records my data usage. I have set it to synch with my billing period too.
I know that's little use to you now, but certainly worth bearing in mind for later. Good luck with Orange.0 -

Orange definitely don't seem to be offering much in the way of loyalty offers these days
My contract ended and I wanted to go on a sim only deal but their prices are so high compared to other companies, I ended up moving to Virgin after they said they couldn't beat their deal! Been with Orange for over 10 years and sad to leave as they've always provided a good service, but their prices just don't seem to be competitive anymore

Been Googling around and on a blog post complaining about Orange, there are lots of replies - including one from they guy (I'm pretty sure) I spoke to today and he has a really bad attitude! Slagging off customers. I'm pretty sure the blog post referred to him in particular too. (He used name given to me today and an accent was referred to).*Look for advice, not 'advise'*

UPDATE:- Had a brainwave and called 150 again.
Got someone more helpful this time.
His advice - refuse to accept phone, don't sign, will go back to Orange. (as per diamond's advice). Completely wrong what first guy told me today.
THEN - ring 'retentions' and he gave me direct dialling for this
- ring 451, then options 4, 5 and 1.
He said it's their job to try to offer me the same or better than I had before and if they don't I can just leave. Guy today never bothered to tell me about any of this, even when I wheedled, just said it was take it or leave basically. Twerp.
Sorted! (hopefully)
And I'll think about taking up your other advice above diamonds.
