Returned faulty goods after 14 day deadline

I bought a camera online through Amazon with 3rd party company based in UK with my credit card.
The camera was sent to a friend who took it to me as I am currently abroad.
My friend didn't inspect the camera and when I received it, there was no battery or charger and the lens was damaged. The goods were not in correct packaging and did not look like they were unused. This was 3 weeks after delivery.
I contacted the company immediately, who eventually said I could return for full refund.
Now they have received goods, they say they will not refund as returned after 14 day deadline. They are going to send me back the damaged camera without replacing the battery or charger.
I would be happy with replacement, repair or refund.
I understand that as the goods are faulty, the the 14 day dealine does not apply.
Am I correct and if so, how should I proceed?
Many thanks in advance.

It should be straightforward - SOGA applies and they must offer a remedy (repair, replace, refund). As it is under 6 months then it is for THEM to PROVE that the damage/missing items is user-caused.
The slight problem is that YOU did not receive them direct, so you may need some form of evidence from your friend.0
