Company failed to register the warranty

Hi,

Hoping someone can advise.

We bought a table and chairs over 4yrs ago and took out the 5yr warranty, we noticed this week that some of the wood is starting to split, so I called the warranty company to organise someone to come out to assess it but they said we don't have any cover. I called the furniture company who said we didn't take out the insurance. I found the receipt this evening that clearly shows we have taken and paid for the warranty.

Would you contact their customer services dept first or go straight to the store? Obviously I'm pretty miffed about this, but I want to tackle it in the right way.

Does anyone know what my rights are and what response I should expect and accept? What would you do in this situation?

Thanks in advance.

BM :)

  • well I don't work in the furniture industry but I do work in one that offers similar insurance policies.

We've always taken the stance that these insurances need to be set up asap just in case the person makes a claim ....and if it wasn't set up we (as in the company) would be liable

  • I agree with mountainofdebt that it is the shop that you should be contacting.
You paid them to provide a service and they failed to do this.

Before you go there, are you 100% sure that the shop in question is still trading under the same name as when you made your purchase?
There have been a few cases where certain furniture retailers close down then open up again shortly afterwards with a very similar trading name and still selling the same stock as the previous company.
  • If the shop has changed registered names since you made your purchase, you might be able to persue a section 75 claim if you paid with a credit card and the cost of the insurance was over £100.
  • Hi,

Thanks for the replies. It's quite a large furniture store (not sure if I am allowed to name them on here) and are still trading under the same name. I had taken up their 5yr interest free deal so I have all the credit paperwork to hand showing what I had purchased etc.

I'll try to get down there this weekend to get it resolved.

    Thanks again.

Don't tell me it's a 3 letter store with "MUST END SOON" sales. and the occasional "SALE OF SALES" and "EVERY SECOND FRIDAY SALE" etc etc.

Essentially a furniture store with never ending sales with a 3 letter name?
