Apple iPhone 5 lightning to 30 pin adapter

I pre-ordered an iPhone 5 on September 14th 2012 online direct from Apple.

The phone was listed as having an adapter included (so that you could use your old docking stations and chargers).

Apparently this was listed in error on the Apple Store UK and when the phone arrived the adapter was not in the box.

I have contacted Apple via email and one phone conversation. Their stance is simply that it is not included and that I can buy one for £25.

I have asked them to send me one free of charge or at least offer me a discount on my next purchase but all I get in reply is. The adapter isn't included in the box.

The trouble is, it was definitely listed as included (there are blogs on the mistake) but, my receipt only says iPhone 5 64GB Black and slate (GSM) Unlocked and doesn't list the contents.

The Apple employee that I spoke to over the phone said, Apple have disclaimers on the website which I'm guessing means I don't have a leg to stand on?

Well, unless you can demonstrate that you bought the thing because an adapter was included, I feel you will not win this.

Can you produce a copy of the webpage, or advert, that showed an adapter was included?

If not, I fear your chances are next to nil.
  • That's what I was worried about.

I've tried to post a link to an article on thenextweb.com but new users can't post links. If you search: apple lighting adapter mistake
    It's the 3rd hit.

This is very poor form from Apple who usually have customer services 2nd to none. I once had a full logic board replace FOC on a MacBook Pro, over a year out of warranty.

Heard on Gadget Detective some time ago that some people have viewed old web pages - can't remember the exact name - Way back?

  • Yes crApple did say the connector was included (in the EU) but very quickly changed their mind - must have realised they could get away with it and then charge £25 for a 10p connector.:rotfl:You don't get to be the richest by being fair . . .

    The thing is...

Apple could offer you a full refund if they wanted to on the basis your order was not complete as expected.

    But the thing is...

I would imagine you've already used the phone, so in that case your options really are limited.

They changed the data because the data was wrong, and lets face it, Apple know you wouldn't have not ordered had you known if that was missing...they realised they could make money off it, unfortunately not much you can do...

Oh and don't lose your charge cable, otherwise you might be complaining about not being able to find one of them either lol
  • If they are selling the "missing" bit for £25 or £30, it probably only costs them a fraction of this to actually make so you would have thought that it would be good customer relations to send one of the adaptors to everyone who pre-ordered the iphone 5 and expected the adaptor to be included.

After all, we are not talking about a small back street manufacturing company, but one whose estimated value is $625 Billion so a few thousand adaptors at cost price isn't exactly going to bankrupt them.

I took a screenshot of the page if you require it.

I've spoken to Apple about this and they will not budge - legally they are in the right, but I think it's really poor form.

They've offered me a full refund, and I can return it within 30 days, even though it's used. They've said theres no way I can get the adapter or a credit towards it.

People here seem to misunderstand that the manufacturing cost of something is the total price of the item. You are forgetting the massive overheads and R&D to design and test the adapter.
    Legal team on standby
  • apple offer 14 days return if you are not happy or you believe you should have got something else.

    send the item back
