cheap train journey from northampton

my daughter travels from northamtpon to derby each friday. She has a young persons rail card. The journey costs £18.80 each time. I have not been able to find any cheal tickets. Please can anyone suggest ways to save money on this journey

Need to know what tmes your daughter travels at, and how flexible the times are. Is it a return journey? (& what day does she return on)

Depending on the time try splitting the journey at Tamworth.

Is going from Wellingborough or Bedford any use?

I assume she comes back - in which case an off peak return at £20.75 should fit the bill

If it is just a single, then splitting at Tamworth can save a bit, - £10.75 + £4.30 = £15.05. But the £4.30 is an advance fare only on certain trains, so means waiting there for an extra half an hour, which could be tedious

Or split at Burton-on-Trent. Buy tickets to and onwards from, and stay on the same train. £12.00 + £4.05

Yes, but that £18.80 does happen to be the single fare, hence why we are wondering whether the actual trip is one way or return

Yup - two singles at £18.80 is rather more than £20.75
