£5 would normally buy 500MB of data for one month. £5 for one day is therefore extremely expensive, and much more than the £2/day price from Vodafone quoted above.

With Vodafone you get a paltry 25MB. It is 2.5 times the price with Three for unlimited data.

Vodafone are the expensive ones in this case.

Unless you are tethering a laptop via the mobile, why would you need more than 25MB in a day? That equates to 750MB per month, which is a typical (and reasonable) monthly allowance.

Despite being unlimited, £5 is still very expensive. For example, even in expensive Switzerland, it costs me CHF 2 per day for unlimited data with my Orange Switzerland SIM card.

The only time I pay as much as £5 per day for data is using Vodafone on aircraft (OnAir and AeroMobile), as there is no option of a SIM card issued by the visited network.
  • I've bought SIMs abroad but it seemed too difficult when I was last in France.

If you are going down the local SIM route research the APN settings first and take them with you on a piece of paper !

We know that wifi without cost anywhere, including in the UK. The requirement is not to access the internet without cost but at the lowest price without being constrained to limited locations where there is wifi.

That is not the requirement - the OP asked "the cheapest way to browse the web"
    not
"the cheapest way to browse the web where there is no wi fi".

In the context of a mobile phones forum, it is clear that the OP was referring to mobile data, not wifi. The same advice that wifi is free would apply to the UK or anywhere else. It's stating the obvious and is not advice specific to France, whereas the OP asked specifically about France.

i think i will use an unlocked mobe with a sim brought in france. thanks again.
When are you going to France? A number of us are trying to get hold of the B&You SIM cards. See this thread.

I've gone off using Lycamobile after discovering that they round up data usage to the next megabyte, and at €0.09/MB, it's almost double the price of B&You's €0.05/MB before you even take the rounding up into account.
