From DCA to CCJ - how long?

Im asking this question more out of curiosity reallly..
Im now back on track and soon to be debt free.. but curious-
In the past i went for several months at a time without replying to DCA letters and ignoring their calls. When i evenutally did get in touch i made a payment, then again avoided them for another few months.. And again the letters and phonecalls came... Then a few months later made another payment and we went round in circles like that for ages.
Typically how long could that have gone on for before they got fed up and actually carried out their threats of court action?
If it helps, the debts with each DCA ranged from
£300 - £8000

There is no simple answer to this.
It depends on
Your circumstances.- If you own your own home you are more likely to attract action to get a charging order.
- If you earn good money.
- If the loan is secured (e,g, car HP).
It also depends on the institution. Many prime lenders are unlikely to sue. DCAs that are agents are acting on the lender's instruction so they will not sue unless instructed.
DCAs that own the debt make their own decisions. They vary tremendously in the likelihood that they will sue.
Some DCAs sue in the last months before a debt goes SB just to stop the clock.
Some DCAs at the moment are going for bankruptcy instead of a CCJ as a debt enforcement tool. There is one thread here where someone is facing bankruptcy for £850.
From what I have read most debts do not end up in court. No matter how good or bad you are at paying them - that seems to make very little difference.BSC No 248

Have a look at the CAG legal issues thread.
