Cash Genie
I took out a loan of £200 with cash genie back in august, and rolled over the loan so as to only pay the interest payment at the end of august. I was then sacked by my employer at the start of september. My final wage covered my rent due at the end of september along with a few bills.
I signed on at the job centre to claim jobseekers allowance. I advised cash genie of this and arranged to call back to arrange a suitable repayment plan as soon as I received my first payment. I advised that I would not be able to pay back the loan at the end of september nor would I be able to pay the interest payment to rollover the loan.
My first JSA payment of £50.72 was due to be paid into my account on the afternoon of friday afternoon (5th october). I had earmarked this money to top up my electricity and gas meter, and also to buy food to last me until my next JSA payment had been received.
I checked my account at 4pm on friday afternoon and the JSA payment had been made into my account. I went back at 4.20pm to withdraw the funds. The funds were no longer available. My bank advised me that cash genie had taken the funds in two seperate payments of £25, leaving me with exactly 1p in my account.
I contacted cash genie about this who advised that they would refund the amounts if I could provide a bank statement showing proof that the amount they had taken from me was my JSA payment.
At this point it was after 5pm so I could not get to the bank to get a statement. I went to the bank this morning and got the statement and sent it to cash genie
I then had to make a series of phone calls and e-mails to cash genie to get through to the relevant person. They tried to fob me off with various excuses before I finally got them to believe that I was telling the truth. Now they are saying that there is nothing they can do until monday morning.
I am now left with no food and an empty electricity meter until monday morning. Does anyone have any advice as to what my next move should be?

You'll have to wait until monday to sort the cash genie issue out.
What food do you have in the house, theres some great guides to knocking good meals up for next to nothing in

How is that patronising?
You wont get your money back until you sort it out on monday, so I was giving you a link on how to cook some good meals with what you have in your cupboards.
But whatever, take the advice or leave it.0 -

Please take your schadenfreude elsewhere please. I'm in a pretty dire situation but dont need advice on how to feed myself0 -
well if they are not open till monday then you cant speak to them till monday.. pleased dont be a !!!!!! it was your choice to take out a PAYDAY loan
perhaps ask a friend or family for a couple of quid to stick on your meter. i suggest cancelling your card or moving accounts asap then this wouldnt happen and you can sort out a payment plan with themSealed pot challenger # 10

Fine. Ill skip the food bit
You will not get your money back until monday, and I doubt even then as they are likely to drag the refund process out. They have claimed part of the money you owe back and they'll be fairly reluctant to give it up.
You should avoid internet forums if you think my advice was schadenfreude.0 -
Same could be said for you, my post/thanks ratio would indicate some people find my advice helpful though.0

ok, I've added a thanks to each of your posts, seen as that seems so important to you.
Theres an old woman getting flung out of her council flat who's just posted in one of the other threads. Why dont you pop over there and tell her the council have got her bang to rights? Your handy cooking trips will go down a treat there0 -
Actually i'd advise her to contact Shelter, but whatever.
Hope you get your money back on monday, you should also follow up with a complaint (in writing) and if they do agree a repayment plan then Id also get this in writing so they can't renege on their deal.
Also, ring your bank and ask if there is a CPA (continuous payment authority) setup by cashgenie as this is a common tactic. If there is then ask the bank to cancel it. Don't take no for an answer as they are obliged to cancel it under the payment services regulation of 2009.0 -
You can see about getting a crisis loan to cover you till monday/tuesday.0
