in Water bills
hey hey
ok i got my water and sewage bill last week, sent by anglian water ok fair enough i set up the DD.
on saturday i recieved a `water services` bill for £11.74 from severn trent water for period 2nd october 2006- 2nd april 2007,
i phones them and asked what it was for and he said its for the water that comes off your home and down the drains
so i said `im paying for rain to be drained away?`
`yes` he said lol
now i may have been paying this bill for the last x amount of years without knowing (cos i had to cancel all my DD`s when i changed banks)
so is this `drainage` bill norm or should it be inc in my water bill??
thanks.

I've just check my bill (from Yorkshire Water) and I get charged for (with example charges for a quarter):
Standing Charge £6.32
Water volume £27.54
Sewerage volume £27.37
Surface Water (Band A) £7.82
Why do you get bills from different companies? I would have thought that one compay looks after the drains.
This does make me quesion what the Surface Water charge is for? Can I charge them for putting water on my property (via rain)? Seriously, what happens if I collect all the water?0 -
A couple of interesting web pages:
http://www.ccwater.org.uk/server.php?show=ConWebDoc.869
http://www.unitedutilities.com/?OBH=3054

Looks like different companies charge in different ways, however, if you can prove that surface water doe not drain into a sewer then you can get a reduction. I would make sure that you are not already paying Anglian this charge.0 -
cheers folks,
seems a weird charge indeed, its like charging for the sun or the snow lol.No Unapproved or Personal links in signatures please - FT30 -

presumably you are billed on a meter water by Anglian and then they will bill you for used water on behalf of Severn trent cos this is based on the meer readings.
Severn Trent bill a fixed charge for drainage and thats why you would get a separate bill from them.
Lots of people are billed by two different companies for water and sewerage.

If your surface water went into a soak-away on your own property which in my opinion should happen, that is if ground conditions are suitable i think you should be getting a little divident for helping to replenish the natural water table.Be good to the young on their way up you might need them on your way down.0
