Direct Flight cancelled - what are my rights ?

Booked a direct flight from UK to Cape Town (South African airlines) in April but it appears in June they announced they are stopping all direct flights to SA.

Thomas Cook did not inform me of this (I just found out), and the flight is fully paid for.

What rights do I have with Thomas Cook for changing me to another direct flight ? with another company ? (via netflights)

Please note cancelling & re-booking would involve higher flight charges.

What does it say in Thos Cook T&C's about them changing flight providers?

TBHO I can't see the problem if you've still got a flight UK-Cape Town ? Unless I've misunderstood your Question ;)

Looking for "compensation" are we

You have the right to a full refund or rerouting. To be honest, if you pick the latter, I think you'll struggle to get SAA to pay for a direct flight on another carrier (unless perhaps it's another Star Alliance partner). You'd probably also have to negotiate through TC which complicates matters. Just one of the reasons why I usually advice people to book direct with the airline.

It's worth asking I guess but if you are determined to fly non-stop, it would probably be a lot easier to just ask for the refund and look for another ticket yourself.

Thanks not looking for compensation - just looking for a direct flight with no additional charges

I am astonished to read that South African Airways (not airlines) are stopping all direct flights to South Africa. How on earth can they expect to stay in business if they have no direct flights to their own country?

They're not. I'm guessing the OP meant to say non-stop flights to Cape Town from the UK.

Perhaps ask SAA when they advised TC of the cancellation to establish how long it took them to advise TC's customers.

Perhaps also advise TC of your preferred alternative direct flights.
Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.

They're not stopping ALL direct flights. The OP didn't mention which airport they were flying from, it's probably just one particular airport.
