Hi
I keep looking at home phone and broadband packages and they all have free evening and weekend calls. This was disastrous for me when I had this BT option as the daytime calls cost us a fortune before changing to Anytime.
For other Broadband and home phone companies, has anyone got a list of daytime phone call prices, please?
Also, I want to keep my line rental with BT as when we tried moving back from Orange line rental at another address we had months when no-one would release the phone line.....or re-install one that had previously been with BT for 30 years!!!
TIA

I'd have thought most providers would have an anyime call add-on package on top of their evening/weekend call plan. eg for plusnet looks like it's around about an extra £3.50 for anytime calls.
I just use 18185 for daytime calls - something like 5p for connection then 0p per minute (for normal 01/02/03 numbers - can usually find an alternative to 0845 numbers).
You could consider also using VOIP such as skype to call landlines.0 -
It's quite simple-if you are spending more than about a fiver a month on daytime calls to non-premium rate landlines, then an Anytime option is going to be cheaper. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Thanks for the replies.
I have to say my head really hurts looking through the threads of BB and phone packages.
Some say don't touch Talk Talk, then other recommend it....then I learn that Plusnet is BT anyway......
I was on BT Anytime with Line Rental Saver but have found out that my LRS period has run out and I am paying 19.50 for this package + I am paying Orange 20.43 for unlimited BB. I am an Orange account holder but can only get a better deal if I switch to their landline.
When my son did this and we tried to switch back to BT it took months. Orange had not left the line in a state for BT to pick up and both blamed the other for months. I contacted the head of BT and his PA sorted things out very quickly.
I live in a Virgin cabled area but thought that they, like NTL before, should not be touched with a bargepole and have thrown any offers in the bin...yet forum users still recommend them???
Our exchange in not unbundled so is the BT Anytime phone and BB package really too bad at 23.75 per month + the 25 gbp Sainsbury voucher?????
As this offer ends soon, I would really welcome some advice as I have lost my job through ill health and need a service with good connectivity and support at a reasonable price, preferably on a BT LRS package.
I have not used Quidco so have not even taken this into account!!
TIA

Plusnet is owned by BT, but is still run independently. You can get exactly the same 'service' as from BT but you will pay less.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I seem to ONLY get offered TT, Primus, Tesco & BT at our exchange (not unbundled) on the MSE package adviser, ! I could get Virgin services but..........
Also tried to negotiate a loyalty reduction on Orange BB with threat of leaving, but they won't shift a penny. I'd have to move line rental to them and I will never go through that again.
Thanks

If BB is important to you, accepting any ADSL substitute is doing yourself a disservice, especially if you have cable access - the benefits of this are legion, faster more robust, lower contention rates and less lag for gaming. Sure, their offshore customer services can be pants, but then, compared to BT? It's a tough call!
Most VM complaints on here appear to be the National service, which is totally different from cable, and is no better than BT's ADSL (because that is what it is). You can have BB without TV or phone, but te discounts are much better if you take them. After 8+ years, I have only 4 issues, and they resolved them with a refund for service loss - very fair and equitable.0 -
Bundling line rental + calls + broadband from one provider seems the cheapest way.
FWIW I have more or less decided to stick with BT wholesale resellers for the moment. Hopefully it will make it less trouble to switch in the future. (It seems to me that phone packages are like insurance etc - attractive savings offered to people switching, paid for by the loyal customers who stay with them year after year.)
I'm just in the process of switching from an unbundled collection of services over to plusnet. talktalk decided to turn broadband off a day early. (Apparently they had to because I was unbundled. Got no advance warning of that.)0 -

You can get Plusnet on any exchange in the UK, since it's not an LLU service, though on a Market 1 exchange you will pay a higher rate.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Virgin costs £8 anytime calls + £13.90 Line rental + £14.50 30Mb Broadband (ignoring the £7.25 pm introduction offer) = £36.40 pm
BT = £18 BB for a 40Mb package + £10.75 LR + £5 anytime = £33.75
I got confused with Orange details but even as an existing customer with an unbundled exchange, unlimited BB = £20.42 and their LR is £13.50...not sure about anytime calls?
My main problem is not knowing my BB usage as I have been on an unlimited package. I have just downloaded tbbmeter to get an idea of what we actually use!!

Plusnet with my chosen options would be £34.48 on my exchange, so very little to choose between all providers after intro offers are taken out of the equation!
