133 stores closing today with the loss of 2200 jobs. 20 stores transferred to Sports Direct. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19792124
Good news for my town though, one of the 20.

while job loses are always difficult for the people directly affected, JJB Sports were a failing organisation and will be replaced by something better0

I always get JD and JJB mixed up. Is JJB the one to do with Wigan football? Will they have to change their stadium name?
If I ever need sport stuff I always go in the jumble sale (sports direct). JJB and JD just seem to sell terrible clothes and not much else, they changed a long time ago from being a sports shop to a fashion shop for... dare I say it, chavs. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Probably had their customer base sucked away by Primark then.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

As mentioned. Dave Whelan, owner of Wigan Football club built up the JJB chain from 1 store. He sold his stake in JJB sports some time ago and formed 'DW' - the JJB gym and sports store near us became a DW gym and sports store. he has renamed the stadium the DW stadium a year or three back0

It was always going to be hard for them to compete when 70% of their customers looted their shops and then were all sent to prison last year.0

Whilst it is doubtless devastating for anyone working there, this is not an issue of great importance.
There is a market for selling sporting goods at the right price. There is no shortage of suppliers. If one of them cannot compete, then tough! Bad management.0 -
