Nick Clegg this morning on Andrew Marr

I am probably one of the last people to turn on Nick Clegg, but watching him on Andrew Marr this morning has finally done the job.
His new brainwave is to get homeowning grandparents to guarantee the deposits the FTB's need.
This is wrong on so many fronts, for example those trying to educate and work their way out of adversity and a poor ground are just going to see another elitist obstacle.

What’s worse is he wants them to use their pension pot to do it.0 -

His announcement did exactly what was intended then....“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.
Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”

what happens when some grandparents loan their pension expecting it to be a short term thing and the grandchild defaults.
Basically the government is encouraging people to risk their retirement income on a possibly depreciating asset and younger relatives who could be subject to all sorts of personal/economic risks.
sounds like a family nightmare waiting to happen0 -

Question..
Who is this designed to help, the FTB or those terrified of a depriciating asset.
Another question..
Would the FTB prefer cheaper housing or expensive housing secured on their grandparents life savings0 -
I thought he was on to promote his single.0

The man and his party are fools. They have no capacity to think through the policies they suggest. Simon Hughes suggestion that folks work reduced hours and job share to increase employment is thoroughly fool hardy.
The conservatives should pull out of the coalition, call a general election, let labour come to power, complete the mess up they started in 1997 and finally the public might see sense and give the conservatives a majority after 5 more years of labour balls ups (no pun intended)0 -
Seriously, is Clegg on a mission to totally destroy the lib dems?
Yesterday he was writing articles stating that he will oppose any cuts unless he get's his way in government.
People took it for what it was. Party politics before the country. The thought of how tearing up governm, ent plans may effect the country seems not even on the radar for Clegg....so long as he shows he's tough in the inner circle, it's all that matters.
We could see UKIP as the third main party after this total disaster from Clegg. I'm ashamed to have voted for them....I only voted as a form of protest against the other two. Dangerous game that, as I found out...with so many others protesting too!!0 -

I remember a neighbour in the early 1990s doing much the same by guaranteeing their son's mortgage. The son then gave up a good job to start their own business, then went bankrupt. My neighbour then had to sell his house to pay what was owed. When I last saw my ex-neighbour he was working beyond retirement age to pay off his mortgage. He was very disappointed that his son has never even tried to pay back what he lost. I am sure my ex-neighbour will look favourably on this idea should his grand-daughter contact him for such a purpose.Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0
