Did anyone use to have one of those Dymo(?) plastic tape labellers years ago?

I had a small plastic yellow thing, you fed the plastic (?) thin tape in one side and rotated the big front dial to select whatever letter you wanted then you clicked the machine and the letter would be embossed on the tape, You rotated and clicked until you had your label, you peeled the back off and stuck it to whatever.
I have a load (and I mean a load) of plastic boxes neatly set on on several shelf units I want to label neatly and I kinda thought this type of tape might be the way to go.
I think paper tape and labels will get tatty quicker.
Any suggestions or thoughts on what might be better to use?

I think my Mum may still have one
.
Isn't there a kids version these days, and also I'm sure I saw something in WHSmith last week which was a label maker?0 -
I remember those. Very poor quality printing, because the letters were poorly punched and didn't kern properly.
Useless glue that didn't stick.
Why not print peel-off self-adhesive labels? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
These old Dymo labellers (embossers) are still available at a good stationers - I have one in front of me now! See Dymo Embossing Lablemaker from £10.
However they are rather slow and clunky and technology has moved on somewhat over the years. If you have a lot of labels to do it may be worthwhile investing in one of the Dymo LabelWriters though these don't come cheap from £105.
I'm sure that there are other similar product out there from other manufacturers.
Hope this helps.0 -
Brother make similar label makers that are very popular. I watch a lot of organisation videos on YouTube (I'm that sad...) and people are always using these.

I have that labeller already.
I don't want to use paper labels though, that's why I thought about the machine I used to have years ago as the tapes were much stronger and lasted for ages.
I've just spotted some Brother laminated labels, these are touted as being almost destruction proof.Herman - MP for all!

This is the modern equivelent
Printer
as always consumables aren't cheap + programmed to waste quite a bit of tape between labels
Lidl have them every now and then - but not now !
like cheap laser printers can often be cheaper to buy a new printer each time0 -
I notice that it's mostly all black on white labels...do you get white on black too or am I wanting too much now?

Brother make small hand held printers which do the job.http://www.brother.co.uk/g3.cfm/s_page/229800/s_level/38430
They also do ones you can attach to your PC which gives you more flexibility. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -

Depends on what you want to pay? They range from around £8.99 and up.
