Eating in Leeds city centre

On Thursday 27th Sept, myself and 2 other friends that we were on the same course at Leeds Met are meeting up for a catch up. I live in Leicester and the other two live in just outside Preston and Gainsborough. I haven't been to Leeds for 2 years and its longer for my friends. Leeds has changed a lot since I first visited there as a student in 2002.

Wanting a place to eat which is not too chainy like Nandos. Don't mind if the place has only like a dozen restaurants in the UK as we might not have eaten there. We will eat anything. Budget for 2 courses and 1 drink is £20 each. Looking for more Indian/Thai. If anything is better, we will consider it.

Staying at the Premier Inn where TGI Fridays is.

Haven't been for 2-3 years, but I'm sure this place will not disappoint...

Indian (actually more Pakistani, kashmiri), Aagrah opposite the bus station, ground floor of BBC building. £20 will get you plenty of food, combine your budget and share the dishes.

If they do the buffet at that branch you will have even more choice for your money. At other branches it is £14.95 for as much as you want.

Slug and Lettuce do lovey food, join up for their newsletter and you get vouchers for money off.

    Google Leeds money off vouchers,
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

There's a chinese place at the side of the markets just down by Gamestation (I think) that is pretty popular and has general buffet.
It's near the Post Office, at the junction of Kirkgate and New York street.

    This one? http://www.obmrestaurant.co.uk/
Always looks busy when I pass, but haven't tried it yet. Recently changed name ... not sure if this was also a change in ownership ...
  • One of Leeds' best kept secrets is Little Tokyo. Fantastic place or a meal:

As an alternative, although I admit it's stretching your budget a bit, Fazenda is well worth a look as an 'all you can eat' without that chain buffet tackiness.

And just a bit further up Kirkstall Road is Sheesh Mahal, which is opposite the Vue Cinema complex.

Not as 'plush', or popular, as the aforementioned Akbars on Greek Street, but food equally as nice...and probably a bit cheaper.
