Deposit Protection Scheme......

I've been reading through some of the posts......

Basically I moved into a rented house through a LA in June, and from the other posts I gather that I should have been sent a certificate for the the deposit protection scheme but I haven't received one.

They're a bunch of cowboys, lie after lie after lie. The house wasn't cleaned before I moved in, they told me it would be, they told me it would be cleaned after I moved in (food from previous tenant in one of the kitchen cupboards!)
Lots of jobs needed doing, have had to chase at least once a week since I moved in, stressful and time consuming, even had to go to the CAB.
I've told them that I don't expect to be told they are taking some of my deposit for cleaning.....but, if I've not been sent the certificate is my deposit protected????? Because if it's in the scheme I have to agree to the deduction but if it isn't then they can just take what they want right??

I was given a load of bumph about the protection scheme when I signed the contract, they were very sure to point out that the deposit goes into this scheme but as yet seen no evidence of it!!

A landlord is legally obliged to put your deposit in a deposit protection scheme and notify you in writing. Keep insisting that you receive a copy. If you dont receive it, then when you leave, they will not be able to keep some of your deposit back.

Not strictly true as they can keep hold of the deposit
