Need a Balance Transfer for overseas credit card..

I lived in Australia for over 4 years, but have now moved back to the UK.I have a balance of around £5k on a Citibank Aus credit card, and the issue is that now I'm living and earning in the UK, I'm finding it impossible to pay off the balance because Citi don't accept over the phone debit payments. I don't have an Aussie bank account any longer, and my bank - Barclays - tell me that I can only do an international transfer from my account with them, to another overseas account in my name (which Citi isn't - it's a credit card only). So I've no physical way to pay it off, apart from posting cheques each month, which takes up to 2 months to be processed and I'll incur currency conversion fees on every payment.

I'd LOVE to transfer the balance to a UK card BUT all the balance transfers I've looked into don't offer to do it for an overseas credit card! I need help because I'm racking up fees and charges on the Citi card because I'm stuck with how to pay it off....

  • You need to apply for a card offering 0% on cash into your current account, from where you can then settle the Australian card.

Take a look at MBNA cards...specifically their 'money transfer' feature. It'll cost you a 4% fee, but for that you'll get up to 20 months 0%...and the ability to do a standard BT of any remaining debt (after the 20 months is up) to any other UK credit card.
  • Can you open a Citi bank account online in Aus? Then open a UK account and add your Citi Aus account under the Global Overview facility. You will then be able to move funds between accounts and access your Citi bank account and pay your credit card on line.

  • Thanks both, will look into them! The advice is much appreciated :)
