Sold item to unverified buyer/Paypal question

I sold an item to an unverified buyer - I asked them to get verified/confirmed with Paypal before I sent the item. This was a few weeks back. I have finally received a message from them saying that they are now verified.

However, my transaction history in Paypal still says 'unconfirmed' against the buyer, although I'm not sure that this would get updated anyway.

Is there any way of finding out if they are now verified? I have emailed Paypal but not had a reply as yet. I've never contacted Paypal before - are they generally slow in responding to email queries? Would it be worth phoning Paypal customer services?

I don't want to risk sending the item as its worth over £100!

Thanks in advance.

Its not the verified that counts for you its the confirmed address. They need to have a confirmed address, whe they do it will say next to it in green confirmed and say that you are covered by seller protection. Unless it says confirmed and that you are covered by seller protection I would not send it.
They could pay you by bank transfer if you wished.

To qualify for the Paypal seller protection you must ship the item to buyer within 7 days...if its been several weeks, you have lost any protection.

Didn't know about the 7 day rule - thanks!

I think the best thing to do now is refund and ask for a cheque!

Am I right in thinking that I can refund within 60 days and Paypal will also refund their commission?

I don't think it's really acceptable to now ask for a cheque after they already paid a few weeks ago. If you offered PayPal as an option then you can't really insist on them paying by another method.

I think its reasonable to ask for another method of payment if you stated in the auction that you would only send to a confirmed address. The seller has been waiting for the buyer to confirm their address, which they still haven't. I would have refunded their money immediately when I realised they weren't confirmed and sold to someone else, I have been messed around like this before. I think that it is reasonable to only send expensive items to a confirmed address due to the seller protection.

Yes - my ad did specifically state that I would only post to confirmed addresses.

Next time I will just refund straight away and re-list.

So when you say they were unverified... do you mean they didn't have a confirmed address?

You have to refund and get a second payment, the status of the address on the first payment won't change.
