Talk talk

I'm looking around to switch phone and broadband providers right now, and came across TALK TALK which seems to be the cheapest and best option for me.

I've read elsewhere that TALK TALK has a really bad customer service team, but could anyone who has used their broadband comment on it? Is it reliable? Do you actually get steady speeds all the time?
Any other problems like frequent service drops?

Thank you!
M

  • It depends, in my case I've had no problems at all and when I rang customer services the adviser resolved my problem within a few minutes.

You need to look at it like this; even if talktalk has a bad reputation for customer service, how often do you actually expect to be contacting them? Once your line has been set up, you're good to go and shouldn't really need any customer service help anyway. What's more is that they have a twitter account which you can contact (ran in the UK) and help forums on their website meaning that phoning India/South Africa doesn't have to be an option.

I'm only worried about their billing issues. I've heard that they frequently make billing errors, which is a disturbing thought.
    Any news of such problems?
  • I receive paperless billing and haven't had any problems. I recently signed up to line rental saver and was a bit worried that it would mess up and still charge me for line rental but everything's fine.

Hm. Luckily, I;ve found PLusnet who has the almost the same plan for just £1 difference.

    Thank you, again.
  • Ive been with Talk Talk for a couple of years and all was fine (except the constant sales calls).
Recently my phone line developed a fault (horrendously crackling phone and no internet) and IT HAS BEEN A NIGHTMARE.

For about 3 weeks I have been on the phone daily to call centres in India where people on the surface are very polite but are actually really unhelpful and unable to use their brains to talk about anything that deflects from their script. Talk Talk should save money and just use automated phones which would probably be more flexible and capable.
And on several occasions the customer service agents did not actually put the job through or the credit they promised because they were "so sorry for his inconvenience".
They sent 2 engineers - first was a BT engineer who couldnt find the fault which wasnt there on the morning he arrived but reappeared within 48 hours (I appreciate that if the fault wasnt there he wouldnt be able to find it). When I reported it again I was told it would be escalated to someone more senior than the engineer that came on the first occasion as they were "very sorry", so I took another half day off work only for a Talk Talk engineer to arrive. His priority was using my toilet (I do not run a public toilet) and then didnt even look at the phone line, just heard the crackling and said "yes I need to escalate this to a BT engineer" and then tried to sell me extra services.
Having no phone line or internet for weeks and spending hours and hours on the phone to Talk Talk I just cancelled my contract.

So in summary, if anyone is thinking of signing up to Talk Talk - dont! Or at least be prepared for everything to be nice when there are no problems but a LOT of hassle when there are even relatively simple problems.

To Bitemarx -I think you swerved a nightmare!

HArd to believe that I have been hearing this sort of feedback about TALK TALK for the last 5 years!

PLUSNET seem to know what they're doing. And they;re BT in disguise so Im hoping the phone lines will be reliable.

    hi bitemarx
I just wanted to advices you on joining talktalk. they do have both bad customer services and broadband and home phone. I would advices you to join sky or plusnet as they are 1000 time more better then talktalk . believe me . I'm a ex talktalk customer and talktalk have treated me like a 3rd class citizen. talktalk doesn't have a UK based call center which in my opinion makes things worst when you trying to sort things out . I hope this helps :)
