Is it OK re-visit a house once your offer has been accepted?

It is, to me, a perfectly reasonable request.

  • Perfectly fine; bear in mind when you exchange contracts you do so on the property 'as is' - the last thing you want is to complete, move in and find there's been a massive water leak or similar between the time of your last viewing and completion.,
  • We went for a second viewing on a house we'd had an offer accepted on last year - good job too as we discovered building work had begun on the land behind the rear garden (previously a country pub carpark which gave an uninterrupted view over open fields) and when we investigated we found out two large executive homes were being built there. The vendor hadn't mentioned this, nor had the EA (both of whom lied about what was being built when we did query it :() and we would most likely not have found out till it was too late had we not gone for that second viewing as we were living 200 miles away at the time!

The couple who bought our last house came back for several additional viewings after we'd accepted their offer, bringing various family members etc - they also brought a video camera and started filming our antique furniture which was a little disconcerting, but as it turned out they were merely attempting to make note of the style of stuff we had in order to buy similar themselves - not to organise a robbery as we initially feared :o

I did have what could have been a nasty experience with the guy that bought our last-but-one house coming back on his own for a second viewing on a dark winter's evening - he was well-known for having been acquitted of murder after several retrials and the consensus in some quarters was that he was guilty

We viewed 4 times! Seems a bit excessive looking back, but we were FTBs and after the first viewing we wanted family to have a look, then we did a last viewing immediately before exchange. Think the last one made them a bit nervous, but that was more important than the 2nd & 3rd, to make sure the house was still in the condition we remembered before committing to purchase. And we still missed loads of niggly cosmetic issues :o

Just another one to say yup. We asked if we could pop back to measure rooms to make sure furniture would fit before we bothered hiring a van to move it all (he'd offered us some furniture too so wanted to know if we needed to ditch our stuff and keep his or ask him to remove the stuff we didn't need) and he just let the estate agent know, we picked up the key from the EA and let ourselves in while he was at work.

Yes of course its a good idea.

It also helps demonstrate to the vendors you are serious.

I went back a couple of times both times I have bought houses, to measure up etc, and also to remind myself of things from earlier.
