I've recently applied for a house via a letting agency, filled in my app form, given all documents needed.
My app form was fine, my references were fine, my credit score was fine (well told good) seemed a bit concerned over past income as I'm self employed and then quizzed me over some payments in my account! I also do modelling so I get a chunk of money every so often from that work which I explained to them, but they still asked for a guarantor which was fine with me, went in on Monday with my guarantor did her app form etc.
On Wed the other lady at the letting agency (the nice one) called to say they were just waiting on a move in date for me from the landlord so to me that all sounds fine.
I spoke to the landlord on Wed and he sounded fine with me, we spoke about move in date etc said he would email the letting agency by today about my tenancy agreement with what he wanted in etc.
So getting to my point (just bit background there)...
I called the letting agency today to see if he had emailed and to see if I can sign the tenancy agreement and this woman who I've spoken to a few times is always horrible with me on the phone, has attitude, comes across as nasty and makes me feel really uncomfortable, to the point I'm a bit upset!
Now as far as I'm aware all is good, since my app form is fine, ref's, credit score, guarantor app etc since they said they're only waiting for a move in date for me.
But when I called today, she just said to me "well we need to check your app form and ref's etc" I said "sorry, you've lost me" she just repeated what she said! I told her I've already spoken with landlord everything seems ok with him but she just sounded like she was going to do all she could to stop me from moving into the house I want.
I'm about to phone the landlord to see what is going on as she has made me feel like I'm not going to be moving in.

Many are like that , or worse.
To set up, run or work in a letting agency you need no qualifications, no training, no criminal records check, no humanity, no personal hygiene no nuffink.
Labour were going to control letting agents, Dave decided not to bother. Remember that when you next vote.0 -

Labour permitted an unprecendented housing boom to run unchecked. Remember that when you next vote.
I should think that regulating letting agents will be priority number 1545 for Labour should they ever get in again. Somewhere after spending public money on funding unions and setting up female only shortlists* (*except when a Labour cabinet member's husband decides to compete of course).
What would probably be more effective, and less partisan, is for people to campaign to their MPs across all parties whenever they have an issue with letting agents, like sending a letter or making a surgery appointment. The parties keep track of what is on people's minds and the main reason they won't move on letting agents is that they see more vested interests in BTL and estate agency than they do in the living conditions of ordinary private sector renters.0 -
You don't say what position this person holds in the letting agency.
This has nothing to do with regulations not being in place (another topic for discussion.
This is to do with customer service.
If this person was rude, unhelpful etc etc then write a letter to the manager (and/or anyone else high up that you can find the name of - maybe through their website) and make a complaint.
People will never be 'taken to task' if nobody knows about it.
OK so you may not get anywhere but there is a chance that the employee will get a deserved 'bollicking' and hopefully improve their attitude.
Jobs are not that easy to come by so if this person isn't doing their job then maybe someone else could do it for them.0 -
Background the OP's saga for moving into this property is here:

Whilst I don't condone letting agent's reaction to the OP, she is probably getting a little peed off at OP's constant chasing, phoning and pestering!
We all have bad days Kimbers, just deal with it. Try not to fall out with your letting agent BEFORE you actually move in!0 -
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago with a LA. We went to see two houses with them on a Monday night - the one we are in now and one in a not-so-nice part of town.
They seemed to want us to take the not so nice one (it was really nice and the area isnt too bad) but we preferred this one.
Anyway we decided on this one and paid the £200 admin fee on the Tuesday morning. An hour later the letting agent called me (well his assistant) and said that the landlord didnt want dogs (which was fine at the viewing and paying the fee) and did we want to take the other property? I said no, could we just have our money back instead? She said she will call us back. Sure enough, ten mins later she did and the landlord was fine with them.
By Thursday, the other assistant called and said all the checks had come back fine and when did we want to collect the keys/sign the agreement etc? I said I will call you back after I've spoken to OH as he was at work.
Few mins later, the first assistant called me and said I'm just going through your application and I notice you only work part time. Yes I reply. Could you afford the rent on your own if your partner left? As I also notice you are not married. You know the landlord won't accept DSS?
At this point I'm pretty dumbfounded. Surely that is discrimination I ask her? No she replies, as you are not married your partner might leave you and on your part time wage, you can't afford this property on your own.
Anyway I had a pretty big go at her and she refused to look at me when we went to the office to sign the tenancy and get the keys. I have put a letter of complaint in about her attitude and am still waiting for a reply....3 weeks on.:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
Letting Agents are absolute liabilities. We were blackmailed by ours recently, it was an utter disgrace, whereby they wouldn't return our keys until we paid a 3rd party for an invoice that was not even due yet.
I give a massive thumbs down to coutrywide who are absolutely abysmal and that is being kind to them.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
I've been more then nice to the people I've spoke to at the letting agency and no matter how many times I call they should not be nasty!
I have only ever spoken to two people there we'll call one N and one G now it has been G I've spoken with most so if anyone should be getting pee'd at me for ringing it should be her yet she is the most friendliest person I've spoken to, excellent phone manner and every time I've called I've always said "oh I'm sorry for calling again" and she has been more than lovely.
Now N, the nasty woman I've spoken to twice, not really enough to pee her off I think! I've again only ever been polite and she has been awful to me each time!
I mean when I called today and I asked her when I could sign the tenancy agreement, she then goes onto say oh we need to check your app form and refs (which has been done already) and I say oh you've lost me, who then says - are you still there!? She knew what I meant!
Attitude and cockyness!
Turns out she is the manager as well! Terrible!
I spoke to the landlord and asked him if everything was still ok, and said I had a very uncomfortable conversation on the phone! He seemed very concerned, put my mind at rest and is getting back to the letting agency immediately with my exact move in date.
Wonder if he's now peed at her with her stinking and nasty attitude!
Thank god for a lovely and approachable landlord!0 -
Oh god, in the nicest possible way, get over it!
You've spoken to her twice and she was a little rude, hardly the end of the world.
Forget about it, move on.What matters most is how well you walk through the fire0 -

Yeah, Tony "war criminal" Blair was so busy starting a war (which has killed hundreds of thousands of civilians) that he never got round to it.
And Gordon B was soooo busy spending every penny the country didn't have he never got round to it either.
I think it will be another generation before voters forget how bad Labour is.0 -
She wasn't a little rude! She was a nasty piece of work! If someone is a little rude to me I just brush them off but she was another thing entirely!
Courtesy and a professional attitude is expected.
I always treat people how I'd like to be treat, she sounds like a bitter woman and there is no need for it.0
