Problem getting deposit back

Hi guys, I'm kind of new to MSE so please don't be too hard on me if this is in the wrong place!
Basically, I rented a room in a HMO flat for a year and paid my deposit. I had some trouble managing my money and paid my rent late more often than I would have liked. However, in the cases of late payment, I ALWAYS managed to pay the rent in full during the same month, and I have never been in a situation where I have had to pay two months rent at once. Now however, after moving out in June, I have still not received my deposit back. I have tried emailing and phoning the letting agents several times only to receive no reply. Could anyone tell me where I stand on this? My rent was paid up to date when I left.
Also, the lease only went up to the 11th of June, yet I was charged a full months rent. When I moved in on the same date a year before, I was only charged for the days that I had been there. Is this right?
Thanks guys,
Ginger

Which scheme was your deposit secured with? You should have received confirmation and an information pack from whichever scheme the agent used. If not, check their websites yourself - DPS. TDS or My deposits.
Once you find your deposit, log into the website and request it back. Unless you do this, the scheme will not release it, however much you chase the agents!0 -

I didn't receive any confirmation of a protection scheme :S I've just checked the websites, my deposit can not be found. I don't know if this helps, but my flat was in Scotland0 -
deposit protection schemes not applicable in Scotland at the time you were a tenant. So you are back to chasing the LA and LL
Who did you actually pay your original deposit to? As you mention it was an HMO, sometimes the incoming tenant does not pay it to the LA or LL but instead pays it directly to the outgoing tenant and the cycle repeats when you yourself then move out.
I'm not sure if that practice is followed (allowed?) in Scotland though0 -
