Help Claiming Bank Over Draft Charges

I need some help reclaiming my bank charges.

I am in financial hardship. So I called my bank to ask for a breakdown of all the charges over the last 6 years. This was about 2 months ago. I called again 15 days ago, still nothing.
I called again today and was put through to someone in the UK. I was questioned why I wanted the breakdown, I told them it was a private matter. (Long story short) They told me they would -not send them to me. Plus if I wanted them for a claim, it was pointless because I wouldn't get it. They were happy to send me 6 years of statements but they would charge me.

Am I allowed a break down of my charges
Is it worth chasing (I think it would be a least a couple of thousand)
Is it worth going through a company

No. You are entitled to make a data subject access request and they are required to comply with that. That data should include charges in the period they hold data for. However, it wont be in list form. You will need to go through the data and identify them yourself.

Do you meet the financial hardship criteria (in general)?

Be lucky to find one nowadays that still deals with bank charges since the banks won the court case.

It looks like the person who you spoke to on the phone has interpreted your complaint as being about unfair bank charges. Their response is correct for that. In the case of financial hardship, you are still relying on the bank to make a goodwill payment if they meet their hardship criteria. Some banks will go back 6 months, some a year. Some further.

Whilst you consider it a private matter, they will require you to give them information. This will also include going through your budget and analysing your income and expenditure.

It's also worth pointing out that being in hardship *now* does not necessarily mean you'll get your charges back. The charges have to have demonstrably contributed to and/or caused the hardship.
