Price Promise not a Promise?

Comments

  • Not sure this was clear, but I have already paid the desposit, then found the other car after some more investigation.

I was hoping for advice on how to push their price promise rather than buying advice! You get seven days after purchase, they refund the difference if you find something comparable and cheaper elsewhere.

I am pretty satisfied with the price I have agreed to pay as I did investigate before, I was just really disappointed with their rubbish reason for not honouring the price match.

Thanks for taking the time to advise, folks.

I think a threat to go to the other dealer is the only way you will push it.

See if the other dealer will match you trade in. Tell the one you are buying that is the case and say 2look, I'd still like this one, I've seen it, meet me halfway because I don't want to give up a grand"

Essentially you need to call their bluff. Will they walk away from a sale?

    5t.
What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?

Depends on how much deposit the op put down.

You paid your deposit then did your homework? Just to remind you, you went to their premises, found something to your liking, at a price to your liking, then parted with folding to seal the deal.
Without going into the detail of is the cheaper one death blue instead of cosmic black or if the bodywork looks like its been sandblasted, you've given this dealer your cash, what do you expect him to do, break the deal?
By all means complain against injustices from car traders, but do you think this trader has done anything wrong? Perhaps smelling a rat he will refund your deposit and tell you to go buy the cheaper one and maybe that is the thing to do, but he might, rightly, dig in and say a deals a deal.

I looked around before putting down my deposit, then this other car surfaced a day or so after.

My 'gripe' is that they claim to have a price promise which will refund the difference within 7 days of purchase, yet wriggled out of it with a particularly poor reason. I was wondering if anyone had advice about pursuing this, or had any experience of getting dealers to honour their advertised promises, thanks for missing the point.

Not sure the "main dealer/supermarket only" restriction would hold water particularly if it's not in the T&C but if they are giving you a "great" price on your trading in then on fairness grounds you should also be taking that into account.

Has this question been answered (what are the T&Cs of the price guarantee)?

When searching for a car I went into Evans Hellshaw.
The salesman told me, " don't worry we check all our car prices are NATIONALLY the cheapest, not just locally like others." So he finds me a car on their website in Stoke, I then check the website and find a slightly cheaper version of exactly the same car, but with 14,000 less miles on it. I ask him why they can't get that transferred: "oh we just can't, we can the Stoke one though *with double the mileage and more expensive*" lol.

So then I ask him why the better car is cheaper, he says oh well we only price match within 40 miles, I point out the better/cheaper one is 36 miles away, he replies, without a blink or hesitation, oh that price match only applies to certain cars ... Lmao ... I just went elsewhere.

Bottom line, they say anything to get you buy from them ... even salesmen have to eat.
