We will be visiting London for the first time in September, I have these questions and would appreicate your help:
Planning to stay at a hotel in Kensington / Earls Court / Knightsbridge area, is this a good area and easy access to the attractions?
What is the best money saving public transit I should get for 4 to 5 days?
Please suggest a good and reasonable price local tour company for 2 - 3 days tour
Where do I look for coupon for train to Liverpool from London
Thanks in Advance.

I got back from London earlier this month. Stayed in Hilton London Olympia which is in Kensington.
There were no problems at all getting to the attractions, there is a tube station on the Circle and District lines - High Street Kensington and buses every 2/3 mins to Central London.
Kensington itself is very good area, flats off Kensington High Street were on sale for £8million!!
I used Oyster Pay as you go to get around, if you use a mixture of buses and tubes in Zones 1 and 2 (where most of the major attractions are) then your useage is capped at, I think, £4.30 a day no matter how many journeys you make. Contrast this with a cash tube fare costing £4.00 per journey.
To save money on the hotel, think about naming your own price with https://www.priceline.co.uk, we paid £45 per night for a 4* Hilton hotel.
As for your train coupon, we travelled using the from Liverpool using the Daily Mail train offer but this finishes on Saturday 31st March. National Express usually do cheapish tickets and at https://www.megabus.com Liverpool to London fares start at £1 each way plus a 50p booking fee. For details of other train offers, this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=23128 will probably help you.
Didn't take a tour, simply used the tube and bus network. There may be offers around this at this site http://www.london2for1.com/
Any other questions, feel free to drop me a PM.0
