Free Postage in Google Search but Not actually Free

I came across Cossack Hairspray 50ml Extra Free in google and it was showing £1.55 FREE delivery on Chemist Direct but when I went through the checkout procedure it was £3.49 postage.

Isn't this misleading/false advertising ?

Can you provide a link to the google advert? I can only see on the website that it is free delivery if you spend over £40.

When you search for it in Google Shopping it says free shipping. (But I think that picks up the cheapest possible check out option...)

Thanks for that. I note at the bottom of the page it states:

"Google does not charge for inclusion in its search results and all advertisements are clearly marked. Tax and shipping costs are estimates"

I am guessing this means it is merely providing the information and is not binding on anyone. I would suggest this is NOT false advertising.

The banner on every single page says that it is free delivery for over £40 which more than adequately implies that it isnt free under £40 spending.

For Google Shopping to apply shipping the merchant has to go into it and define the rules; by default it doesnt add any and doesnt prevent the merchant from using the service even if they haven't specified their postage.

Even if they do specify their postage rules then at present it always applies the first line - ie it doesnt follow the rules - even if a subsequent rule should apply instead.

So basically, in short, Google Shopping may or may not display the correct postage and this is totally out of the hands of the merchant. Use it as a guide and click through to confirm

Strangely enough found Loreal Velvet perm colour treated hair showing free delivery by one click pharmacy but not actually free.

It looks like more retailers are following the trend !
