Moving to a non-cable area with Virgin Media

There is a possibility my family may be moving to a non cable area but i have broadband and phone with Virgin Media.
Does anyone know if they would be able to move us on to ordinary broadband with wireless router with no charge?
I understand we have a contract but the house we live in is rented and we planned on staying long term but we now have mice in our walls and roof which the landlord thinks we are "over-reacting" about, so we need to leave asap.
On the flip side it is also not our fault that Virgin have not put cables down in this area so surely there should be a way of changing over with no fuss or bother?

Virgin national broadband is a rebranded BT product and probably not very good value for money.
You need to find out the name of the exchange where you are moving to and checking out which LLU options are available. These will be the best value.

Its not Virgin's problem that you are moving.:DThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Sorry, you will probably have to pay for the rest of your contract. Its on the virgin site to which I am too much of a newbie to be allowed to link, just google 'How does moving home affect my bill/contract? virgin' and it is the top link0

Is it your actual exchange? (Just because it is closest doesn't mean your line is connected to it. Do you know the number of any of your neighbours who are on BT, Sky or TalkTalk? If yes then try their number in the checker and you'll find the actual exchange).0 -
But I've heard* they'll let you cancel if they're unable to provide the contracted service if you try to use their Home Mover service.
*Anecdotally - I have no direct experience.
No they won't. You contracted at the current address, and VM do not guarantee service to every address in thUK.
You can move the phone and broadband to VM National (not a good idea, as above), but you'll be charged the full ETC on the TV service which will no longer be available in a non-cable area.
NB: you will also commence a new minimum 12m contract on any services that you move.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I just think it is absolutely awful that we HAVE to move through no fault of our own and just because this potential property hasnt got cable we suffer financially!
Are you basically saying we will have to pay the same amount for non cable services as we would for cable? Thats disgusting.
Only 6 months into contract so god knows how much it will cost to get out of it.
Talk about being completely shafted just because of a poor landlord.
On the issue of the telephone exchange, i have no idea which is closest this is just what i have found out and we are only going to view this property tomorrow so its all just a possibility if we like it, so no idea about who has what provider there.0 -
It may not be any fault of yours, but nor is it any fault of VM either, nor is your situation with the landlord any concern of theirs. If you break the contract then they will charge you an ETC as per the T&C's. You'll be charged whatever they specify per month based on the remaining minimum term for any services that you don't transfer (so, at a minimum, the TV service).
Why is it 'disgusting'? It's simply putting them in the position that they would would have been in had you not broken the contract. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Unless they are upgrading the service near you then you just have to sit and wait and get an alternative package.
It's infuriating. I was the furthest point from the hub on my street and so it needed a signal booster on the cable; this mean't ripping up the driveway. NO THANKS'Never forget that only dead fish swim with the stream.'
