Cigarettes / kids curtains

I won two sets of curtains with matching bed linen for my baby daughters room. They arrived but absolutely stink of cigarette smoke, I mean stink. I have washed each set 3 times and the smell has finally gone but I can still smell it in the house. The curtains are perfect otherwise but don't know what to do about feedback? I wouldn't have sent the curtains with the 'smell' and tbh I don' expect to receive something like that - especially childrens curtains/bed linen

I only ever buy kids clothes/stuff from listings that say pet free/smoke free home. People with pets or who smoke, just can't smell it. My mother-in-law sent up a coat for my daughter and it absolutely stinks even though they only ever have a one or two cigarettes a day in the kitchen. Needless to say, she hasn't worn it yet as I haven't had time to triple wash it!

I'd probably leave neutral with a comment about them being fine except the strong smell of smoke.
I am not stubborn. I am merely correct.

Don't think you'd need to triple wash if you used a bio detergent
  • The best way forward, imo, would be to mail the seller and politely inform them that this was an issue. I wouldn't ask for compensation or anything, but simply inform them that there was a problem which you have now resolved.

Then base your feedback decision upon their response.
  • i'd say that warrants a negative, whether they smoke or not, and whether they can smell it themseleves or not is not the point, you deserve btter than to be receiving smelly curtains which i presume you've paid good money for.

anything you purchase which merits washing 3 times over is simply not good enough

Interesting... My family ALL smoke. Apart from me... and when I go home to visit and return home I have to wash EVERYTHING in the suitcase and air the suitcase out for a few days. I hate the small of stale smoke! But even I can't smell it after a week in the "smoke house" when I go home... To be honest they probably really didn't think about it themselves because they don't notice.
I wouldn't leave a neg or neutral - after all the courtains are exactly as described... I would leave a positive but send a NICE mail saying thanks etc just for future reference I'd recommend you febreeze them or something as they did have a strong cigarette smell to them and some people can be a little funy about that :)

As for "from pet free home" then I have 2 cats and 1 dog and all clothes that I sell is clean and hair free. And I am darned proud to say that my house does NOT smell of dog or cat and neither does my clothes :)

Have to say that if a listing doesn't say smoke and pet free household, I now email to check this.

I once purchased a pram raincover which I had to wash thoroughly and hang outside on the line for several days to get rid of the whiff. Sent an email and received very nasty defensive emails in return. Hasten to add that my original message merely stated that the item smelt very strongly of smoke and I was disappointed to receive an item obviously meant for an infant in this condition. It turned into a smokers rights campaign and I was going to report them to ebay for harrassment but thankfully the emails eventually stopped.

Incidently I used to help at NCT sales quite often and if items for sale ponged of smoke then they were excluded from the sale and the sellar was told the reason why.
