There isn't a simple answer - it depends on how long you've been married, if you've separated/lived apart for a period of time or fit some particular circumstances.
Have a look at the link below...it's all explained there

I just want my old name back, and to be single again (forever in theory). Can I do it. Using (I hate to say it, free law aid(can't remember the name), or have they knocked it on the head already. Seriously, I want right out of this so called relationship0

Is this a vent or are you asking for advice.
If you want advice you need to give more details. Like how long you were married, where you married, will your OH consent to a divorce, is there property to be divided and children to consider.
Most people can get divorced, and if can be quick and cheap, or long winded and expensive depending on the answer to those questions. But you can change your name and choose to live apart from your OH anytime even if the formalities of the divorce take some time.0 -
There just isn't the class of the old days on MSE. Anyone remember?rhoobarbcrumble wrote: »I just want my old name back, and to be single again (forever in theory). Can I do it. depending on whats in involved ie children division of assets etc etc you can do the entire divorce ya self will cost about £500 in total takes a few months. and will also depends on the reasons for it less than 2 years you will have to say a reason and other side agree to it. 2 + years can do it on grounds of seperation bascially but other side has to agree 5+ years you can do it and dont care what other side sais. times frames are less if you lve in scotland
obviuosly if there is children and financial matters to sort its more complicated0 -
It's unlikely you will get free legal services for a divorce but it is possible to file for divorce without the help of a solicitor....the process is quite simple and spelled out on the direct gov website and in leaflets from the courts in language even a child could understand. When you do it yourself it is much cheaper, although you will have to pay court costs of approximately £400 unless you are on a low income and qualify for relief.
You need to meet specific criteria in order to be eligible to petition the courts for a divorce so the very limited information you have posted about your situation are not enough to give a 'yes' or 'no' answer to your question.Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
We got married in the year 2000, can you imagine there isn't a single decent photograph - (ooh, I lied, there is a decent photograph of one of my sisters), everyone else who was good at photography, decided to experiment, was that a sign? We don't have children together, my kids are still younger and we still see them.0

Hey Padstow, I come from the old school teaching system, I don't think I'm a chav or anything, I can sew, bulk cook, you name it - I can usually do it. That's because I was taught how to at school when I was a kiddy. So I'm not sure where you're coming from. Maybe I misunderstood you?0

Do you still live together?
If you are separated, how long have you lived apart?
Would your spouse agree to a divorce?
If you haven't lived apart for at least two years then you will need to give reasons for wanting a divorce - there are only a few specific reasons that the court will accept. What reason would you give?Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -
We did split up for a while about 2 years ago. then we got back together. I don't think either of us are happy. But there is something about him that won't admit it. He's definately a grumpy basket. I'm through with the whole thing though. I just witnessed him totally blanking my middle son tonight. This was because I'd mentioned that maybe we should encourage him to look at the apprenticeship stuff and pick something he would like to do before a4e or whatever the one he is with, picks something he wouldn't like or sanctions him. Since I said that he hasn't spoken to me for about 48 hours now I think - this happened on friday night. My son turned up tonight - as expected and I don't think he spoke to him at all.0
