Npower, final bill shock

I decided to move to a new supplier in Jan because a massive rise from Npower.
In Feb I received a final Bill from them for £196.05 for electric and £181 for gas. Baring in mind my monthly payments have always been £65 per month, until the current rise for everyone
I queried this to them and they confirmed that everything was correct after spending 40 mins on the phone and being transferred 3 times and put on hold 4 times. Anyway their excuse is that they have recently changed their policy to regulate monthly payment correctly to what fuel is actually being used, so direct debit customers where only being assessed once a year instead of every time they read the meters.
So for the last year I've been underpaying and only now it's been brought to my attention.
So if your thinking of moving to a new supplier bewared you might be expecting a very large final bill.
