compensation from my old bank?

Hi all, i used to have a credit card with nat west and in 2005 i unfortunately found myself disabled and unable to work as my condition is progressive, anyway i rang the credit card company and explained my situation and asked if they would accept lower payments, they told me that they couldnt accept lower payments as i was up to date with the account and until i got behind and they served me with a default notice there was nothing they could do. Acouple of months later i received a default notice from them and agreed to make payments of £21 per month which both parties agreed to. I made payments towards this account for five years until 2010 when i was able to make a payment of £1550 to settle the debt (hooray). In may of this year i wrote to them after reading about people being missold ppi and a few weeks later received a refund of ppi in the amount of £1224.56, now my problem with that is that i had been paying them for five years at a reduced sum and then paid the lump to settle the debt but at no time did any member of staff tell me that i had ppi and that i could claim to have the debt paid off i only found out that there was ppi on there when i wrote to them two years after i had settled the debt. Can i claim compensation from them as i was paying the debt off using my disability living allowance and was told that legally all i needed to pay them was £1 per month but as i take my responsibilities seriously chose to pay off as much as i could afford each month even though it caused me some hardship, should i complain and ask for compensation? if so how much? thanks in advance for any advice

the staff didnt have to tell you that you had PPI its up to you to find out, they had already let you pay a reduced rate. i dont think that you'll get anywhere with a compensation claim as they had already told you that you could pay a pound a month and you chose to pay more.0

I did find out there was ppi on it two after years i had settled the debt, if i had known it was on there i would have used it, they didnt tell me i only had to pay a pound a month i knew that from another source but chose to pay more to settle the debt. I thought it was a case of being missold ppi and also missuse of a product that they sold me but didnt tell me?0
