being rent guarantor and applying for mortgage

Hi,
I desperatly need to move home , but i am a student and therefore the landlord has asked for a guarantor. My brother has offered to be guarantor, but only if it dosent affect him getting his mortgage as he is trying to get a mortgage atm.
ive read conflicting views online, some say it will affect due to financial burden (or rather potential financial burden) , so say it will but only if i fall behind with rent (which im not going to as i have enough money, just happens none of it is from work)
and some say it wont at all, its just a check that they exist and nothing else will be affected.
can someone shed some light as i really need to move but would be mortified if it meant that my brother cant get his own home

Usually you can only qualify as a guarantor if you earn enough to cover the rent in the case you default, most also require you to be a homeowner. So may be wise to wait till your brothers mortgage has gone through then check if he is eligible.0
