Damaged a Car Rental...Unsure if I am covered under 3rd party car hire insurance?

Yes, I made sure that the car hire insurance cover the UK hire. The T&C when I booked online states the the excess is £800 but when I went and picked up the car they said its £900 . I didn't think much of it then because I didn't anticipate myself damaging the car.
Thanks. I feel a bit calmer now. I'll try and contact the car hire insurance again to make sure I have all the documents to claim back the damage.0
