Italy for Honeymoon? Anyone done it?

  • We did it in April this year, We spent a week in Sorrento, 3 days in Rome and then 3 days in Lake Garda. If I did it again I would spend less time in Sorrento and more in Lake Garda.

Lake Garda is just so peaceful and beautiful. It was very quiet when we went but just felt magical.

It cost us just under 3k for the two weeks, we travelled by train which was efficient and easy to use.

We did it and it's the best honeymoon ever. We did the opposite to you:

Orient Express from London to Venice. 1 night in Venice. (worth seeing but don't stay too long.)

7 nights in Lake Como at Hotel Tremezzo - cannot recommend this luxurious hotel enough. It's just amazing.

4 nights in Rome. Loved the history and hotel (Baglioni) was amazing and luxurious but not as relaxed as Como.

3 nights in Sorrento (mainly to see Pompeii) stayed here:
www.exvitt.it/ Again, cannot recommend it enough. Gorgeous hotel.

South of Italy is beautiful and cheap but not so nice as an environment - poorer. North of Italy is extoritionate (you'll come back thinking 6 Euros for a coke is cheap.

We got back a year ago yesterday and I think it will be the holiday of our life.

We also travelled around by train which was very efficient and good value.

Won't say how much the whole holiday cost - due to the Orient Express it was a bit ridiculous. The only thing I'd say is Italy doesn't come cheap. You could do very nicely on 2k each though.

Oh I would LOVE to do the orient express! Its on my bucket list!

Other thing I would say is don't rule out sicily. I don't know about transfers from mainline etc, but we stayed in Taurmina for a few days before heading on to Malta- it is breathtaking. Well worth it- views are amazing, Greek amphitheatre, mount etna- if you are thinking of going that fr south I really recommend it. That was my first taste of Italy, it was brilliant.
