Can't buy Esure Home Insurance online (are they trying to evade paying cashback?)

This is the second year running that Esure and Sheila's Wheels have been our cheapest quote for home insurance, however, it is also the second year running that their online service has refused to allow me to buy online. They are currently offering £45 cashback with Quidco or Topcashback which makes it an even better deal. When I click to buy the insurance it simply goes to a page where it states that they can no longer provide the quote that I have been given & that they apologise for the inconvenience. Last year I was very concerned about this (were they refusing me insurance?), however, when I rang up they were more than happy to uphold the quoted price & complete the payment over the phone. So after being insured by Esure for over a year I was not expecting to find the same problem again.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is it just me! I'm really frustrated that if I go with them over the phone again this year they will have neatly avoided paying out £90 in cashback. (Interestingly if I make up a random quote for another person & address then they still refuse to let me buy their insurance online.) Very frustrated!

Quote out of date ? Normally only valid for 30 days.

Esure internet system is not working properly and you need to phone so their staff can issue policy manually ?

I don't know how Insurers internet sites work in regard to cashback offers. I would presume it is a commercial arrangement between the cashback site and the Insurers site, with a relevant code needed to be entered to enable this. Then when the policy is issued that involves the cashback code, info is passed back to the cashback site, so you obtain the cashback.

Whatever, there is a problem with Esures internet site, which sounds like a problem with the cashback code.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Cashback sites are simply affiliate marketing sites like this one and thousands of others, the only difference is that they give some/ "all" the commission they earn back to you where as sites like this obviously keep it for their revenue/ profit.

If an insurer was intentionally blocking affiliates from getting their commission by making their sites drive customers to the phones then they'd very quickly find that the big affiliate sites (non-cashback) would switch to their competitors within a heartbeat. I doubt either of the brands you mention would be doing a massive short term landgrab knowing that in 3-6 months they'd have burned all the marketing

If you're using Esure or Sheila's Wheels it's really really important that you select a contents sum insured that reflects the new cost of replacing your entire contents.

They have a history of providing quotes with a low contents sum insured, as soon as you make a claim they will check whether you have the correct sum insured. If you don't they will either cancel your policy or if your lucky reduce the claim by the percentage you're underinsured.

There are numerous cases of this on MSE and across the internet

The average home has circa £44k, their site will probably suggest something nearer £20k
