Electricy Bills - Advice

Electric bill just cam in for £360 for a quarter. Live in a 3 bed terraced house, but have to run electric hot air heaters in lounge ( though this is normally not on all day). This amount seems very excessive to me, will British gas (current elec supplier as well ) be willing to send someone out to check what could be causing this.

What to do is for a week keep a diary of your meter reading (do you have an older dial one or a new digital read out one. Try and take a note of the meter reading at the exact same time each day (or night).
This way, you will get an idea of how many units of electricity you are using each day and add them all up and you will get an idea of how many a week. British Gas charge approximately 8-10p a unit (dont know what rate you are on).
So multiply the number of units you use by, say 9 pence and you will see how much a day you cost. e.g. if you used 30 units a day, thats £2.70. There are 90 days in a quarter, so that would be £243.
For your bill you would need to be using about £4 a day or 44 units a day. Of course these calculations are all very rough, but you can see how it can all add up!0 -
I doubt if there is anything wrong with your bill if you use daytime electric heaters as that is the most expensive form of heating you can get.
Plenty of people on here are having bills of £250+ for Gas central heating(which is about a third of the price of electricity) and then electricity bills on top.
BG will come and check your meter, but if it is OK you will have to pay for the visit(and meters are rarely wrong)0 -

Not a chance, they will give you some energy efficiency advice, or as Cardew said you can pay them to check your meter.0
